MY RATING: 0.00

Writing (weird fiction, horror, poetry), reading, hiking, concerts, drawing/sketching, traveling, history, mythology, all things Norse/Germanic, esoterics, the occasional game (Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, all of the Resident Evils, Call of Cthulhu: DCotE, Age of Kings, Medieval: Total War)

The majority of what I like isn't even horror; I usually find historical epics much more moving.

The Birds
Blood Diamond
Borat
Braveheart
Cabin Fever
Children of Men
The Crow
Dracula: Dark Prince (about Vlad)
Erik the Viking
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
The Fountain
Girl in 3D
Hellraiser
Hotel Rwanda
The Jacket
Jacob's Ladder
Last of the Mohicans
anything Monty Python
Robin Hood: Men In Tights
Saving Private Ryan
Saw (original only, thanks)
Team America: World Police
This Is Spinal Tap
Underworld (Kate Beckinsale only, thanks)
The Village
V For Vendetta
Young Frankenstein

I'll listen to anything that strikes my fancy, to be honest. Usually though, this doesn't stray beyond metal, folk, world or classical. I'll just list a few that have never disappointed me:

Agalloch
Amaran
Amon Amarth
Angel Corpse
A Perfect Circle
Bal-Sagoth
Candlemass
Cemetary
Collide
Dark Lunacy
Draconian
Drudkh
Evergrey
Goatwhore
GWAR
Iced Earth
Korpiklaani
Loreena McKennitt
Megadeth
Mezarkabul
Moonspell

Nile
Niyaz
Poisonblack
Porcupine Tree
Queensryche
Skyclad
Solitude Aeturnus
Strapping Young Lad
Thurisaz
Tristania
Vintersorg
Virgin Black
Witchery
Woods of Ypres

The best stories ever devised can only be found in the mythologies of ancient peoples. However, here are some other favorite authors:

Clive Barker
Anthony Burgess
Michael Chrichton
Glen Duncan
Elizabeth Haydon
Homer
Shirley Jackson
Stephen King (cliche, I know, but the man does have talent...or did)
R.A. Lafferty
Lovecraft
Richard Matheson
George Orwell
Chuck Palahniuk
Poe
Rod Serling (The Twilight Zone!!!)
Steinbeck
Peter Straub
Mark Twain
H.G. Wells
Jules Verne

I vastly prefer psychological horror over simple gore and blood; a dismembered body ceases to terrify a person after they leave the house, but the imagined sight of the laws of reality being defied will stay with them for a very long time, and that is ultimately what makes the haunt work or fail. You can go anywhere for blood and guts, but not every place out there will get inside your head and rattle things around.

That said, I do use a chainsaw at my haunt of choice, but there are still ways to surprise people...

Glad to see someone else believes there's more then just blood and guts, to horror. I want to see you wear your fear on your sleeve.
