Title: 2008 haunted house

Blog Entry: I was talking to one of my friends a while ago about a haunted house I was in. I told him about all the bad things that happened. Not like someone got hurt bad... But you'll see... Keep in mind... This isn't my haunted house... This is a haunted house I was helping with. The money made went to getting gifts for families who had no money during Christmas. 1. They never advertised until 2 nights before the opening. The only advertising they did was a big white sign across the bridge from where it was. They didn't put down the dates where everyone could understand them easily... They put them all together. -- Example ---- Oct. 22, 23, 25, 26, 6pm - 10 pm Oct. 24, 27, 28, 29, 5pm - 12 pm. Since it was like that. I went ahead and printed out some of my own posters with some zombies and stuff on them. I put the dates in order that could be understood EASILY. -- Example --- Monday - Oct. 22 - 6pm - 10 pm Tuesday - Oct 23 - 6 pm - 10 pm And so forth. I understand that they could have been busy with building and couldn't have put out the posters in time or put the time and dates in a simplier order. But people have to understand that they need to make time for this stuff. And these should have been done before the haunted house was being built. 2. A fight broke out in the middle of the waiting area... Between a person working with the haunted house and a guest. Before the fight, shouting and cursing went on infront of the gruests. 3. Way too much kids stuff was used to build the inside of the haunted house. Little things like ghost balloons, sheets made to make ghosts, and little kids dolls. This caused the haunted house to be extremely cluttered in some of the rooms. And it also killed the effect of the scare. Don't get me wrong... If someone hasn't done a haunted houses made to scary people, then of course they'll make that mistake. Or if they've never done anything like that before or never been to a haunted house. 4. The rooms were made way too small... I'm talking about 8ft x 8ft rooms. And as I explained a sec ago... The rooms were all packed with stuff. Making the rooms smaller. Some of the rooms were bigger than the others. Some of them weren't. I got lucky tho. I got a 8ft x 12ft room. ^.^ I didn't have enough room to do my full act but I still scared them to tears... Seriously. Again, this could have been because they were trying to make the haunted house bigger as in more rooms or because they'd never done anything like this before. Which is an honest and simple mistake. 5. They let some of the kids there come back into the haunted house during break. And since they didn't advertise that well, we had only a few people show up. But since a few of us had done stuff like that before and knew how to act, we scared them enough to make them want to go through more than 3 times. XD Even after seeing everything with the lights on, they were still scared to death. 6. Too many lights... Each room had a light. There wasn't a single room in the haunted house that was dark. Then I turned off my light. When my light went out they couldn't see where I was hiding and I got them every single time. In my haunts, I try to keep a few rooms pitch black. That way they can't see where people are hiding or waiting on them. With all the lights on, people could see everything enough to tell it was fake. Which did kill some of the scare for some of the guests... But not enough to kill all of the scare. Again, a simple and honest mistake. -------------- Other than that, the haunted house went great and everyone had a good time. Next year tho, if I'm still in this area, and if they want me to help them out, I'll make sure no one goes through without screaming and crying in fear. I'll even teach some of them how to act better and do their make up for them if they want. I did get to do the make up on one of my friends who worked with me. She was 12 I think and hadn't ever done anything like that. The lady over the haunted house wasn't allowing anyone under 18 to be in the haunted house. But I told her she would be in the room with me, and I'd take full res. she let her. The character I was playing was a patient from Silent Hill. So, I did her make up the same. I think I created a monster with that little girl. I got her addicted to haunted houses like a few other people. Anyway, I taught her how to move and react and she played the part perfect.
