Blog Entry: I'm on the second week of idleness following my surgery. Yesterday was the day Doc was supposed to cut off my cast and let me wash and scratch my poor leg. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Oh, he cut off the cast, but that was just to change the dressing and remove stitches. He wouldn't let me look at anything. Normally, I'd look, but I knew I'd tense up and make his job harder, which would probably make my job more painful, and it already hurt pretty darn bad. I believe he made four cuts on the foot, and it felt like he used one string to tie them all up. When he removed the stitches, it felt like somebody was pulling a rope through my body...fast. I wish I'd doubled up the pain meds before going. On the brighter side, he did give me a more festive cast... My next appointment is right before Christmas. I might ask for red and green, kinda like a leg candy cane. Put some battery powered lights on there and I'll have the fanciest Christmas foot anywhere! Might as well, since I can't decorate the house. The only downside of this new cast is... Yup, those is sum uuugly toes pardner... Meanwhile, I'm starting to get a little bored. There's a few things I've got going, but a few issues too. I've got some awesome games I've been meaning to start playing. Gears of War, Bioshock, Half Life 2/2, Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3...I've been meaning to start or finish all of these, but... Since I'm using a laptop now, I ordered a game controller, because the keyboard isn't much good for these things, and... My wife is going to pay her family a visit in January. Her family is in the Philippines, and she'll be gone two weeks. Why is that a problem? Look folks, I'm a pretty tough guy. I've been through things that few people lived through, much less kept most parts of their sanity. I've dealt with men who are meaner and tougher than I am, and never had a problem. I'm not afraid of dangerous people or animals, I'm not afraid to take risks, not afraid of the dark, really, there's not much I am afraid of. I'm not some macho man, just a guy who's been there, done that. Oh, and I have a lot of guns, some are really BIG guns. There's also plenty of ammo around. When my wife is out of town, this house gets real creepy. I hear things, from thumps to bumps to scratching to things I can't even describe. I know this place is haunted, and it doesn't bother me. My wife goes to work every day, and some days I'm home alone, and it doesn't bother me. Even when she spends a night or two with her friends, I'm good. I actually like having the house to myself now and then. Somehow, when she's gone for a week or more, this warm, friendly home turns in to...something else. I know this sounds silly. Hell, I feel silly. And foolish. Even more so when I 'check out' the house, favorate gun in hand, looking for what made that noise, or making sure it's just my imagination. What does this have to do with video games? Well, some of those games are pretty creepy. The first installment of Half Life 2 actually chilled my spine and made me jump now and then. What an awesome haunt that would be! Anyway, these newer games are most likely worse. One night, wife was out of town, and I caught the last 15 minutes of the Dawn of the Dead remake. I was so damn jump that, instead of going to sleep, I got dressed and went in early to work. This time I won't have that option. Yes, I'm a silly, foolish man. So I'm wondering whether playing any of these games before my better half goes away for two weeks is a good idea... CS
