Building outdoor props
Posted On 04/16/2008 17:53:06 by nancysparkplug

I need some tips on building bodies for my army of undead brides that I'm putting out in the yard this year. I was thinking of constructing something out of tomato cages for the base with PVC and chicken wire to build the bodies up. I want them to be transportable so I can move them into the garage if the weather gets particularly nasty, which can happen quite often in October in Wisconsin, so they need to be sturdy but light enough to move. Am I asking too much?  Any suggestions would be greated appreciated. I want to point each one like it's walking into my neighbor's yard. He's icky and complained behind my back about my display last year. (He puts up those wooden cut-outs of kitties and pumpkins with the cute faces on them. Ooooh) So far I have seven wedding gowns so I'm off to a good start. Come on people, won't you help me torture my neighbor?

I loved Susan's suggestion of doing the grilling, and this completes it! I do have an old gas grill that I was going to throw away, but I'll keep it now, just for this! Great ideas!! The more obnoxious, the better. Keep the ideas coming...

If the bride is going to grill body parts, why not make it the groom on the grill?

Thanks for the tip! I was thinking of putting some sort of anchor in the ground before it freezes that I could hook these props into, even if it was just a thick piece of PVC that I could slide a smaller piece into.

I use steel armatures for my static props, I weld an X out of 1 1/4" steel for the bottom, and use a center pole 1 1/4" steel for the spine, then a T at the top of the spine for the shoulders then I use 1/2 inch conduit for the arms, then to bulk up the armature I use chicken wire. The thing is almost indestructible. Its kind of over kill but thats how I do it, and my props don't mind the weather.
