Sooooo...I have this grand scheme for my MadLab entry fro this month and it involves papier mache/paper clay.
Well, I just finished working on it for the day and, for the first time, tried my hand at REAL papier mache/paper clay. I stopped by my local Michael's and picked up some "Celuclay", came home...read the directions and started mixing. My first mistake was the fact that I didn't really measure it out and just started putting it together. I really don't have any means of measuring out one pound of powder from a five pound bag...so, I winged it. I don't think I ever actually got it "just right"...but, went ahead with it anyway.
This lead to my second problem...sculpting. Now, I have sculpted a lot of things in my day. In fact, I used to actually make masks. But there is a BIG difference between brown clay and this concoction I was working with. So far...it isn't too bad...I just can't get the details into it that I wanted to...but I will live with it.
So...even though I was a big fan and admired his work before...I have gained a new level of appreciation for the magnificent peices that Stoll creates. I am sure that the difference in experience helps out...but..MAN!! I am horrible at this...lol
