Hey folks,

I would love to have one of these guys at my next Halloween party!

They're made entirely out of bread and are totally edible! Too bad they're only available in Thailand This guy does awesome work, check it out:

I think this would be a great idea for a haunt theme, too, just imagine all the possibilities!

I just can't figure out how he makes them.  Cuz, you know, bread rises and the sculpture would distort in the oven.  Unless:

1.  He uses a mold, and the bread kind of rises into it as it bakes OR

2. He uses bread dough, like a bread dough clay, and doesn't bake it at all OR

3.  He uses some kind of bread dough which DOESN'T rise, like a flour and water mixture, and then bakes it (but then I'm thinking it would be very brittle, like crackers).

I am really puzzled.  Can anybody think how it is done, to get that sharp detail?  Because I think I could sculpt bread heads if I could get the technique right.  Or anybody that makes masks or that sort of thing.

Is a puzzlement.  Will have to check his website!

I checked out the video from YouTube.

He doesn't appear to use molds, although there could be a mold under the face to keep the dough from spreading out.

He does indeed bake the dough.  Maybe he uses a special recipe that doesn't rise?

They don't show him making the dough.  Although the interview is not translated, I don't think he is telling how he makes the pieces.

He is certainly a very talented scupltor.  I just wonder whether he could actually sell enough of these body parts to make a living.  Maybe the Thais are a bloodier sort of people than I would think.

Isn't there a rice "bread" that's pliable?

Those are TOOOOOOO freaking cool!

I think the recipe for kids looks better.  The baker said "it's just ordinary bread" so I think that would be more like regular bread.  The first recipe is for a play-dough like material that is often used to make things like Christmas ornaments.

It's edible, but not very bread-like, and not very good either! However, it would be good for small decorations, so is a useful link. Maybe a favor for the wedding - skulls, pumpkins, black cats?

I will see if I can try the second recipe out and give a report back on this forum.  I have a day off on Tuesday, so maybe then.

Thanks, PAHalloweenFreak!

Its probly not one piece. Just like when you bake a cake thats in the shape of a 3d figure. There are 2 peices. you bake the pieces with the detailed side face down, This allows the bread to take the shape of the mold and still rise. If you do this with 2 molds just like in mask making then stick them together with sugar or something you have a complete head. Finish it off with some airbushing and voila you have a bread head.

Oh the molds are probly custom made for baking. Not expensive but not easy to find a person who can do it.

When in doubt, aim for the head.

I heard of this guy a couple of years ago.

Then................ a couple of friends delivered me some information.

I think it's awesome work and I'm all for it, but I question whether folks are ready for it.

There is no doubt, he has improved his work.  A couple of years ago, it was decent, but now it seems to have incredibly reality.

I support it, to each his own.

It's a shame that we have to always think what the other guy will think eh?

Gruesome, but very nice, as long as it's not real.  I see that pic and and I'm kind of wondering :/
