My name is Sandra and I live in Batesville AR. I've always loved Halloween, horror movies and scary things. I work at a residential youth center. About 4 years ago a co-worker and myself setup a haunted room at work for our residents. It was Halloween day and we were having a party so we decided to give the little bugers a scare and made a dark room, the feely boxes covered with cloth and holes. Another co-worker told the kids that a resident had gone missing and we needed help to identify a body that had been found. She then brought them into the dark room where they stuck their hands in this yucy stuff and my co-worker was hiding underneath the table, he squirted them with water and made sounds. There was a computer in the room on which I played scary music and I was sort of laying on a couch in the room covered by black material. When the techno music started I would start movie around. It was a hit the kids were scared to death, even the resident who had been there all day and knew that we were putting this together. To say the least we had so much fun that we decided it had to be an annual event and so it has. I came up with this haunted story that includes some of the history of our town, Batesville, and added tidbits which is now known as the "The Legend of Poke Creek". Every year it has grown, I've made several props, bought some and other co-workers have become involved. Halloween is THE HOLIDAY at the youth center and we decorate more for it than Christmas.
