My Entry (a huge lesson of learning with mistakes)

I know this isn't as big as the other props. What I wanted to enter I never got to start yet so maybe I can enter it in another contest....It's tuff when all you got is $14 to your name :(

Anyway my how-to came from the followings:

I don't like gore so I tended to tweek my idea a little to do something a little more toned down since if your like me, and are going to use it for your own house, I didn't want anything to scary around my 7 year old neice and her friends that she brings.

The interesting tweek between them is, I didn't want to make a ''real'' cake, I wanted it to be a prop that will last a lot longer. So I went on with my idea, our joanns fabrics was moving so a lot of thier stuff was going 50, 60% off so i grabbed what I could afford to create my cakes.

Step 1: I got the stryofoam circles and glued them together, and then stuck tooth picks in them to help keep them attached to the other circles that were used (since they were thin and I needed the cake to look thicker, each level is made from 3 styrofoam circles)

Step 2: Icing on the cake, just like a real cake and just as easy, All I had to do was get the joint wall compound used to fix cracks in the wall and with a plastic appler I iced my cakes with that. So far this was the easy part...(and I let it dry over night)...

Step 3: This project was entirely new to me so each step I was learning from, to clean up the cake a little just because I'm a perfectionist, I used a sander to the cake to smooth it out a little (works very easily by the way)

Step 4: I made this project a little more complicated for myself but you learn from your mistakes so next time you make it, it goes easier right? Well after that I decided to super glue the body parts on the cake (uhg this sucked because they ddint want to stay and I had to glue and tape to hold them, glue and tape, then let dry over night, then re-glue parts and retape. THEN I got some more plastter and filled in a little more around the body parts. (note:lesson I learnt here was when I first iced the cake I should probably have stuck the body parts in then)

Step 5: After messing up and using the wrong type of bag, I went to the grocery store to get a heavey duty icing bag to put some of the joint compound in...then I went around the cakes to added that little fancy design you usually see cakes have in the stores.

Step 6: NOW after waiting 2 more days to let the compound fully cure, I went and painted it white...then nobody liked it WHITE so...I had to add some extra color to it and decided to do halloween colors (the wedding cake went orange/purple/green/black and the birthday cake went purple/black. LESSON two: Painting the black trim with the rest of the cake was a pain in the BUTT, I had to use the smallest brush to hand paint every little detail on every little * that went around the cake WHOA! but I'm out of school..had the time to do it..and did it....

Step 7: Now that the cakes were painted, I used some cardboard I cut out in a circle and glued the cakes to them so they looked like they were from a real store.

Step 8: I used the fake water, added red paint to it, and poored it on the wedding cake top so it looked like it was dripping blood (it's not really gorey don't worry)

Step 9: Wedding cake needed a topper so I went to Michaels to try and find one..OH GOSH they are expensive, lucky for me they had a cheap one left there for $10.00 so I brought it home, painted it to look like a zombie and stuck it on the wedding cake.

Step 10: to take pictures and put them here...gosh did anyone read all my typing? LOL anyway here are the pictures of my cakes I made.

ps...I'm sorry I don't have step by step pictures, I didn't take them when I was covered in plaster and paint, i didn't want to touch my camera, I just took pictures when I was done....also I don't know how much I spent on these, my goal was to try and use it to enter into the contest as an extra then I was hopping to try and see if they will sell on ebay since 1 regular birthday cake goes for $50 and the wedding cakes go for $150 on ebay. Anyway I hope I qualified enouth to enter the contest.
