Yet again more halloween
Posted On 08/03/2008 22:32:06

I started inventory on my halloween decor and of course I thought I'd post a few pictures of the items I made and doctored last year. I found out my medium of choice is acrylic paint. I can create textures and suttle changes with it.

I found this fun guy at TJ Max last weekend.

I made this with papertowels, glue and acrylic paint. I also used my new favorite toy... blood gel.

I bought these and painted them

This is my fire place pre decor

This is the witches shop as a work in progress... I know it's only august but by the time I get it all arranged perfect it's time for halloween...

I have 101 more images to come but these are what I have so far. With my witches kitchen I don't have enough gross stuff to put in jars so any links or ideas would be most welcome.

A Rare Breed of People
Posted On 07/31/2008 21:25:56

If you ask something how their evening and/or weekend was please expect a real answer. It seems that people who ask this question disregard your answer as soon as you begin to utter a response.

Or maybe it's because my answer over the last few weeks has been nothing but Halloween projects. I am a receptionist at a high end law firm where I am surrounded by individuals who can’t fathom a dark thought. Then one frightful day they hired a dark haired, nose ring, tattooed woman who would change the definition of scary. I find the title of Princess of Darkness a compliment but to them it is not a term of endearment but rather a mental illness. My blunt straight forward sense of humor and love of the macabre is a little disconcerting to most. I won't deny my love and excitement for Halloween is not the "normal" excitement for life. For me it’s the creative side that I enjoy most and the ability to express the disgusting side of life.

I guess it takes a rare breed of people to love a holiday that is designed to be scary and gross. My goal is to infect as many people as possible with the love of Halloween. I am now the ambassador for the dark and wicked. I intend to educate and contaminate everyone who will listen. Souls beware I intend to corrupt and upset your rose colored glass view on this world.

Halloween Project Pictures
Posted On 07/30/2008 23:14:20

It seems that this is an easier place to up load my photos. As stated in my previous blog, I am in full blown craft and project mode. I decided that I wanted a witches kitchen complete with potions and icky items. Unfortunately I don't have enough space in my kitchen so I moved it to my fireplace. It's hard to describe but I will post pictures as I go of my build. I have a feeling it's going to be so nice I won't want to remove it. I also am still finishing my two other cauldrons as well as I made time to build a small one for a friend who loves halloween as much as I do. Below is all I've been working on in the past week and my new purchases.

Sorry some are side ways and I am too tired to fix this at the moment.

My Nitro inspecting the new baby

I fabricated these out of wire and painters tape not a bad start

This was made for my awesome nail lady and friend... can you find the wings

I painted these out of cheap plastic eyes you get at a party store. I felt they were missing something and this year I painted a high gloss clear on them. These are before.

These are after

This is the begining to my witches store

More Halloween
Posted On 07/30/2008 18:51:46

Well it's offical that I am in full blown Halloween fever. This week I raided a local good will for bottle for my witchest kitchen. Although it's now a witches fire place shop. I bought two book shelves for the sides. I also purchased a baby for a zombie doll and loads more. I will be posting pictures of them soon.

Step one is oatmeal, sand and glue

Step two- paint is flat black

step three - new paper, greatstuff, balls and bones

Step four and 5 - paint a solid dark green all over then dry brush a random pattern of lighter green

Step 6- dry brush yellow over the green

It's finished

CAULDRON
Posted On 07/24/2008 01:30:14

Well I finished the first of my three cauldrons for this year. I am disappointed because I can't post the pictures because they are too large. Even after resizing them the file is to large. It's because I have a Nikon digital SLR and it's too advanced for the site.

I first covered the plastic cauldron (I got 4 for 25 two years ago) with oatmeal and sand and glue which created this very cool effect that at first looks alot like vomit. It was quite messy and gross. If you attempt this let the oatmeal get wet and plump up and add in some water to adjust the texture. Then painted it black and went to work with filling half 3/4 of the cauldron with newspaper and the other 1/4 with great stuff, balls, and bones filling the inside. FYI I started using a off brand of great stuff and several days later after putting great stuff over it's still setting up on the inside and causing cracks. Name brand is much easier and better way to go. I painted the boilng brew with a dry brushing technique that included grean and yellow paint. The cauldron got a mild rusting paint job but is very subtle.

My only complaint is the cracking from the off brand which I will need to go in and touch up the paint on later when I know it's offically set up. I love this idea which I got from several of you on here and another site listed the oatmeal and sand idea. So combining the two created a very realistic cauldron. So I decided doing two more was worth it.

Another update
Posted On 06/18/2008 13:33:13

I recently purchased several department 56 halloween decorations and more supplies to create more decorations. I took a breif break but I'm back to working on it. My husband laughs because when I received the decorations I opened them up and looked at them for a couple days and then out in the garage with my other halloween items. So I essentially bought them to store them for a few more months. I still can't wait to start decorating.

Prep Continues

I've been busy the last couple of weeks with my life in general but have finally finished painting the fensing and a lantern for this year. I need to pick up more supplies and start additional projects but it's going to have to wait till after the camping trip in may when I can run through my inventory.

Preparation for 2008
Posted On 04/02/2008 15:14:18

I've started searching for more ideas this year and figuring out which props and fun things I could pick up. I went to Big Lots and found garden boarders that I'm rusting and faux finishing to go around the tombstones and painting disgusting eggs for the Vulture nest too. I guess this will tie me over till I figure out what project to do next. I know that more headstones are in the works and a few more gross props. This list goes on and on.
