GLFF fever!!!! I am so jazzed and excited -- I get to go!!!! I'm catching a ride with HallowSkeen (who happens to be a neighbor I didn't know I had until we met here!!!) and her crew and we will be heading up on Friday. I've been sweating it cuz I have been fighting one nasty nasty spring cold/sinus/flu for the past week and a half - blarrghhhhh.... (which is also why I haven't posted much lately...) but I seem to be past the worst of it and on the mend. Anyway.... I can't wait to see everybody there! mary
First off... belated congrats to Wilkster on your anniversary! Today (thursday) is my anniversary - 21 years!!!! and guess what I'm getting???? a freakin' root canal.... o yeah.. go me... LOL
Bunny #2 passed.... I so wanted to be hopeful for these babies. They did have a week of life that they otherwise wouldn't have had. I have had so many successes with raising critters and my fair share of not so happy endings. It's always hard when things don't go the way you hope they will. As an animal/nature lover and rehabber, I know and understand that I can't save everything, but that doesn't make it any less painful. I have mourned over every one of my losses whether it be a bunny, squirrel, possum, sparrow, robin, blue jay or starling. Some days I just feel like 'that's it.. I can't do this any more'... but then I think of the joy there is to be had by raising an orphan, nursing the injured back to health and ultimately releasing them back "home" --- there are no words to express the feeling it gives you. I have been so very blessed and privileged to have these creatures come into my home and my life and I can't help but believe my life is fuller and richer for just that. I haven't yet, but I will shed tears for these precious babies... I have a beautiful bleeding heart plant that will mark their final resting place...
Thank you to everyone who wished me well with this endeavor. and thank you for letting me share my grief here. This is a big part of who I am .... mary
My heart is heavy today.... we lost the little gray bunny... it passed last night. I believe it had developed aspiration pneumonia, which is a common occurrence when trying to raise tiny bunnies. The good news is that its litter mate is doing very well. He/She is eating like a champ and so far no problems with aspiration of formula. This is day 7 and to be truthful, I am surprised that I have gotten this far. I am still cautiously optimistic with the remaining bunny. If all goes well, within the next 3 or 4 days the eyes should be open... and at 2 weeks I can start offering solids... but for now I have to take it one day at a time... that's just the way it is with bunnies....
Not haunt related but.... oh man.... I went to a friend's house this weekend... she's my rescue/rehab friend... anyway.. we were checking out her domestic rabbits and she noticed that one was down (deceased)... it was a recent rescue.. and when she lifted the body to remove it, what did she find?.... babies!!! there were four all together, two were deceased. I immediately asked... can I raise them? the rest is history....
My friend was sure that they weren't there Sunday morning, and they were found Sunday late afternoon, so possibly they are just 24+ hours old as of this writing. I am going to attempt to raise these little darlings, but I have to be cautiously optimistic about their prognosis... They made it thru last night and they are eating, but this is definitely tricky business... I have a web album posted if anyone is interested in tracking their progress.... http://picasaweb.google.com/MMcKeon5958/Bunnies
Hello everybody out in HS land!!! I was just sitting here thinkin about stuff and I think it is so great that everybody has been so very busy so early in the year!!! what a great incentive this home away from home has been! Generally I wouldn't even start thinking about really doing anything until about mid-July or August and here it is April and I feel like I've accomplished so much already!!! I know for me it's just knowing that there are "others" out there who understand and are so into it. and it seems like a lot of you have great spousal support (or at least tolerance LOL) for the insanity that is halloweening... I am so inspired on a daily basis, am so in awe of the creativity that flows here, and so appreciative of the willingness to share ideas, tips, tricks and what not. All in all, every one of you guys and gals rocks!
.. and that's all i have to say about that! Hope everyone has a fabulous week - mary
Another project done! (well, the head at least..) I have dubbed him Oozing Boil Guy and his progress can be seen here: http://picasaweb.google.com/MMcKeon5958/OozingBoilGuy and this is what the finished product looks like:
I really need to start thinking about body building (props, not mine - LOL) soon!
O happy day... she's done! now I have three little witches all in a row... figuring out their bodies is the next step... I've already got the beginnings of their outfits, but first they need a form... anyway... here's #3
