I'm still alive and kicking
Posted On 06/06/2007 04:42:09

Wow!  It feels like forever since I've had a chance to check things out here.  Life has been busy/crazy around here.  School is out so my grandson is home all day now.  And with the warmer weather, the yard is in dire need of attention.  We had an inground pool put in last fall and the back yard was  pretty much destroyed in the process... which means the dogs have been having fun when it rains and can drag mud all through the house which in turn means I have been giving the ol' carpet cleaner a run for its money!

Anyway... I haven't officially started on any Halloween "stuff" as of yet, but I did score a great find at the neighborhood garage sale!  I got 2 female mannequins and a dress form for, get this.. $28!!!  each of the mannequins is missing a hand, but other than that, they are in pretty good shape.  Also, a good friend of mine is having some major house renovation done and she has this big ol' dumpster sitting in her driveway which I have an open invitation to come and take whatever I want!  and my Halloween sidekick, a friend of my oldest son, is finally home from the army and very anxious to get started on prop making!

Personally I don't see myself getting started until probably the first part of July.... I'm going to Florida for about a week towards the end of June to attend a wedding and my grandson will be going to stay with his dad for the better part of the summer (woo hoo! - don't get me wrong, I love the grandson, but I need a break!!)

I'll get pics posted of "the girls"

 Catch everyone later!!

Just Checkin in
Posted On 04/04/2007 03:53:18
Howdy all! It's been a while since I've had a chance to post... Life is, as always, nuts around here... I'm getting real anxious about the weather. I want it to finally be decent enough to get outside! I think I have a case of "haunter's block" as I don't know what I want to do for this year... Oh, I have ideas, just don't know what to do with them. I do know a major project is getting my backyard back into shape. We had an inground pool put in last year (late fall - haven't even swum in it yet) and my yard is basically a mud pit. I had to move a lot of plants and a fair portion of them didn't make it, so yard work is going to be pretty much an ongoing thing this spring/summer. But I am sooooo itching to get into prop making! The newspapers are piling up and just waiting to meet up with some flour and water. I have been doing a bit of sketching and doodling lately... mostly zombie faces - maybe it's a sign? o well.

Hope everyone's doing well. Spring is so close and I can't wait!

new addition
Posted On 02/06/2007 00:54:33
Just had to tell you guys about our newest addition to the family... His name is Ricky, he's about 6 years old and he is a Moluccan Cockatoo... A good friend of mine does animal rescue and she was telling me about this gal who had him and was looking for a home for him... She works and just doesn't have the time needed to spend with him.... so I jumped on it! I picked him up Sunday, cage and all. He has quite an affectionate temperment (almost to the point of being needy, which I suspect he really is)... The down side is that he is a plucker... he has the feathers plucked off on the right side of his neck and some on his "shoulder" ... His previous owner had him for about 4 years and she said he has always been that way. I'm hoping that I can make a difference by keeping him busy with a lot of interaction and what not... I've had birds before, but never anything this large! I'm really excited about having him. He doesn't know it yet, but he will most definitely be an inspiration for a prop I've been wanting to make - some sort of large vulture-type bird creature and now I have a live model to work with! I'll get a couple of pics soon.

ok.. that's it for now..

I was taking my nightly stroll around the "web" and came across this most interesting site. There is this place in the Czech Republic called the Kutna Hora, an ossuary... anyway.. here's the link.. there are some fabulous pics here. The work is quite stunning

This could be just the inspiration you need!
