ARGH!!! Panic mode!
Posted On 10/18/2006 21:28:23
Okay, not that many days left till the big day and I haven't done squat about my cemetery columns... My fence is not done yet either and several tombstones still need to be carved and/or painted....

I need to get into high gear and finish this stuff asap! Time for some long night builds I guess... Who needs sleep anyways. As they say: "You can sleep when you are dead"...

Finished my Grim Reaper robe

A super blah day
Posted On 10/09/2006 22:25:08
Today absolutely sucked... Woke up sick: nose filled up, ears clogged, eyes teary, throat hurting.... Needlessly to say: I stayed home.

After lingering around the house for a bit I did manage to do so test sewings... Then I started with the tunic of my grim reaper suit. Ran out of thread after 4 small straight stay stitchings.... Geesh, 150 yards and already gone through it...

Wife forgot some stuff at Albertsons and I asked her to get me some black thread if they had any. She bropught me back two spools... Too bad it was like dark purple. Totally understandable coz under fluorescent lights that color does look like black thread. I guess its time to stop the sewing and either go to bed early or drill some more holes for the fence.

I'm not looking forward to tomorrow: 2 days will be jam packed into only 1.... BUT I can go to Jo-Anns during lunch and get myself some spools of black thread :)

Pissed Me Off Grannies
Posted On 10/07/2006 19:02:00
So, my wife, the baby girl and I went to Jo-Anns today (yay, 50% off coupons!) to pick up my grim reaper costume makings.

While searching for some nice thick fabric for the grim reaper, the little one decided to want to be carried by her daddie. Something her daddy was not in the mood for, so we tell her 'no'. Ofcourse, being only 2.5 years old, 'no' does not go down well so she starts crying to try and get it her way. The wife continous to explain her that that will not help at all while I continue to browse fabrics.

All of a sudden this granny stops and says to my wife: "You should love her more, she will love you back. Just helping you.". My wife looks up and walks away before she was going to have a fit with this lady. WTF was she thinking? There is nothing in the world we love more than our only daughter... As if it is okay to give in to every whim of a 2.5 year old. That is how spoiled brats needing instant gratification are made. No thank you. I'm proud of my wife that she contained herself. Instant boiling point reached situation that was.

So, okay, I found my fabrics and we are having it cut. Mind you, this is a superstore so they have a number ticket machine and a 'now serving' thing hanging up there. All of a sudden some other granny shows up and interrupts the girl measuring my fabric: 'what does that batting cost?'. The girl, nice as she is, stops, turns around, looks on top, turns around a giant roll of batting to find the price. "2.39 a yard ma'm" is what she says and the lady just turns away and walks off. No thank you, no nothing. While we are talking to to girl how rude that was, that same granny had grabbed a numbered ticket and is being served by another girl. She asks: what does that batting cost per yard? The girl scans the same fscking ginormous roll of batting: "2.39 a yard, ma'm".

I can't believe this lady.... Holy crappers!

Anyways, I've got my fabric and we decided that many old ladies are just assholes who happen to think they own the world just coz they have 'been there, done that'...

My thumb is now sore from cutting the simplicity pattern (#9887) :) I guess it will be fence work tonight instead of cutting the actual fabric.

Emptying Netflix Queue
Posted On 10/07/2006 00:51:08
After doing only once piece of fence tonight my wife wanted me to watch a movie together... We hadn't done this in an eternity. We had Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle laying around for about a year from Netflix and we finally watched it. It was a great movie, I laughed my ass off. Hilarious humor, absolutely fabulous..

More fence construction tomorrow - or - costume making. Would be my first real try at using a sewing machine..... Wish me luck!

Fog Chiller Test Run
Posted On 10/02/2006 22:27:36
As I said yesterday, this past weekend I started on a few projects and finished one: my new fog chiller. Today I got around testing it and made pictures!

This test run was with 20 lbs of ice and I think this can't chill much more. Time to raise the ice shelf a little bit I guess. Ofcourse the test was run with the lid on, even though the pictures might suggest otherwise.

Check out my gallery or click on the below links:

Fog Chiller 4

Ofcourse all credits have to go to Deathlord for thinking of version of this chiller contraption. Visit his site if you want one without tinkering with materials yourselfs!

PS: This is the third time in a row that I used the fogger in the patio and forgot to close the master bedroom patio door. Needless to say, said room was filled with fog... Wife was not to impressed....

Finished my new Fog Chiller
Posted On 10/02/2006 01:41:49
After doing some work on my first cemetery fence earlier today, finishing the first 8 feet length of 13 *gasps*, I kinda had to continue working on my fog chiller instead. The little kid was not happy going to bed, so it was out of the question to make much noise and be outside in the garage. She woke up no less than 4 times with pitly (sp?) stuff. I still love her though :)

So with only indoor type work a possibility, I ended up finishing my new Vortex (tm) type fog chiller. Too bad it is too late to actually fire up the fogger and test it. But that is not a problem: on the way home tomorrow I'll grab a bag of ice (or two), fill it up and have the little one play with the fogger. I know she will put it in continous mode: she'll be happy and I can see the end result of 1200W fogger fog being pushed through this new beast.

Off to bed I go: another blog tomorrow with pictures!

PS: Next time, I should save time instead of money and buy the PVC 4" tube, not the metal stuff :)

Fence and Column Makings
Posted On 09/30/2006 10:47:38
Woohoo! Yesterday my wife was in a really good mood and let me buy fence and column makings for this years haunted yard display.... She is so sweet even though it came out like 100 bucks more expensive than I had anticipated. I also got my final makings for my own version of the Vortex (tm) fog chiller.

The fence and column material was setup as a 'pickup later' deal because the rental truck at Lowes was 'booked' solid for the next few hours. No problem for me, I can start with my fog chiller today.

I need to create the ice tray and the exhaust pipe before I can do a test run with actual ice in it.

The 'pickup later' stuff hopefully comes in, in the afternoon, which means that tonight it is absolutely going to be building time... Then again, it is the wifes birthday too. I think tomorrow will be building time then :)

Good prop finds....
Posted On 09/24/2006 02:35:19
Today was a good day of shopping. We went shopping at Party City, Wishing Well, Target and Wallmart.

I ended up buying 4 skull rings for myself at Party City (2 USD). A scythe at Wishing Well (4 USD). Lotsa candy at Target which my wife already put in bags the same day. At wallmart a dark brown 26 gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck trash can to make my second fog chiller. Add in some weatherstripping and this chiller already cost me 12.50 USD.
And then my best find of the day: when walking towards the register I noticed a single new dremel flex attachment for 17 USD (from 27!). I couldn't resist that deal. Already used in and I absolutely love it.

Started on making my chiller. Cut the hole and added the weatherstripping. Tomorrow I'll test this part with the little one: she can push the button of the fogger and go wild on that while I check how well the lid is sealed.

Seems like my props are finally getting to the next stage: being ready for halloween...

Oh yeah, friday I picked up my 500 glow bracelets we group bought through CalHauntS NorCal. Absolutely kick ass that Sherri brought them down for me. Also, met Clay and Anna from a haunt a few blocks down the road. Really nice people and definately need to stop by when they have their haunt all setup.

Time to go to bed now: it's 20 to 1 here in the morning... Yikers
