My baby
Posted On 03/27/2008 12:49:27

Hi all....sorry I haven't updated you guys for a long time. I created a page at www.carepages.com for her. If you go there, her page name is RowanDean. This will be the last off topic post I make here. Briefly, she had gone home from the hospital and within a week we were right back in again. This time she was transported to Boston (which is where we are now). They finally discovered that her tumor is benign and do not believe it will grow any more. She had surgery to remove it from her neck which eliminated about 80-90% of it. She still has some in her inner ear and some pushing on her brain stem, but the neurosurgeons did not want to put her a very risky surgery (which was the original plan) if they didn't have to. Right now they are going to leave her as she is and monitor the tumor. If it grows she will have furhter surgery immediately. She had to have it removed from her neck though since it nearly blocked her airway, which is now clear.

As for the haunted house, it seems to be a go. We are awaiting confirmation from the other organization to see if their board will approve. If not, I have a few other people interested in helping out so I'm hoping for the best. I fanyone wants to help out in any way (make a prop, web design, tickets and flyers, or whatever) let me know. The storyline is "in the works" but the haunt is mostly designed and laid out already.

Rowan update

Finally, we got to come home yesterday!! Unfortunately the fight will be long, but at least we fight it from home rather than a hospital. Overall we are ok, but the financial situation may suffer a bit. My sister-in-law is working on a jamoree to raise money and the only thing I can think of right now to help out is a haunted house. Even if I do it midsummer.

Ok, so here's my idea. If you guys out there have old props you no longer use, would you like to donate them? It really doesn't matter what they are or what they do I can find a use and/or design a haunt with them. Sure it may not a super professional themed haunt, but the idea is to raise money to help support my family and other families of children with cancer. If this sounds like something you would like to participate in, then I get the ball rolling as early as Tuesday by contacting charities in my area. If you would like to donate, things we are looking for are: haunt props (static or animated), old cloths, customes and the like, old plywood, anything you think of that could be used for the haunted house would be great. If you are not your item could be used, just ask. I have a team already started to help out with this, but if you live in Vermont and want to lend a hand, you are more than welcome. Hell, you can even help from 1000 miles away with any skills you may have like web design, flyer design or any of that stuff. Does this sound like a good idea?

Diagnosis

Well, the verdict is in. For my family and especially baby Rowan, tomorrow begins a long and hard battle. My baby has a form of cancer known as neuroblastoma. Her chemotherapy begins tomorrow. Over the next 6-12 months, we will be very vulnerable to losing things as we help her fight this crap. I am racking my brain for ways to bring in the very much needed money to help keep our home and other things as the war rages on. Other than the link to my items (which will be growing soon) I am selling online and the possibilty of selling haunt ideas to raise money, I have nothing else yet to offer. I don't like asking for handouts, so I will earn money to support the fight. If anyone knows any way to make money for my baby, or can help in any way it would be VERY much appreciated. I will keep updating as the fight goes on.

Baby Update

So far she is doing great. They have taken her off the ventilator and sedation. She has a tracheoscopy (not sure that is spelled right) but she is doing fantastic. We finally got to hold her this morning. Though it has only been a few days, it seems like months. Still no word on what she has except that it is a tumor of some sort and it is wapped around her corrotid (Spelling again) artery. we should have some answers tomorrow and a preliminary treatment plan by the weekend.

I am selling stuff online also, and hope that I can generate some money to keep us afloat until this ordeal is over. It isn't Halloween related stuff, but here is the link anyway: http://www.ioffer.com/shops/pennywise753

I will be trying to list more stuff ASAP, but I have limited computer time. Thank you all very much for your concerns and thoughts. My family and I greatly appreciate your support. As soon as I can, I will upload a picture of our little girl.

My Baby

Hi all. I thought I would let everyone know that my 10-month-old baby girl has been admitted to the hospital with a strange lump in her neck. Over that past few days she has been sedated and incubated and undergoing several tests. Today she went though surgery and it has been found that she has a tumor in her neck. The doctors are still not sure if it is just a benign tumor or if it is cancer. This is a very hard time in her life and in mine and my family's lives also. I know that by the time it is all said and done we will have fallen behind on bills. In order to compensate for that I was thinking of detailing some of my haunted house room designs and selling them for something like $2. This way we will not be in jeopardy of losing our home while we are in the hospital. As of right now it my be 3 days before anyone knowa what she has and who knows how long it will be before we can take her home. If anyone is interesting in  helping us out at this extremely difficult time by buying some room designs/ideas, I will be happy to work on them over the next few days. I can check email and such from the hospital computers so I will be able to write updates as things progress.

A Haunt that anyone can do!!

So I have been thinking about doing this for over a year, and now seems to be the right time do it. As you know, it is nearly impossible to start-up a full-scale haunted attraction. A lot of people haunt their garages or homes. I do not have a garage, or much for land for that matter. But this attraction should fit just about anywhere, and involve only 2 volunteers plus yourself. A haunted attraction that only needs 3 people to run?!?

Ok, so here it is...a Halloween Seance! People enter a candle-lit chamber and are told the story of a gruesome murder (or whatever) that happened in this very room. Tonight, they are going to try to contact the dead, etc, etc. They all (13 at a time) sit around the table and focus their attention on the spirits. The "Medium" asks for a sign of the ghost's presence. Suddenly, a picture frame crashes to the floor! Things progress from there, escalating to terrifiying proportions, as things happen around the guests, such as being touched by invisible hands! In my story, the murderer used a knife, which is seen on the table. At some point during the seance, the knife is seen to slowly start sliding across the table toward a guest, then the candle flickers out! More terrifying things happen in the dark, like they feel ice-cold hands touching them, and then the appearance of a full-body trasparent ghost.

There are spooky sounds, table-thumping, and just all sorts of terrifying ghostly happenings, then all is quiet and the "medium" relights the candle. The seance is over and the guests may leave.

Well, I thought I'd share the idea with everybody here, and maybe we can all put our heads together and come up with even more ghostly happenings. So far I have the picture frame crashing, the ghostly touches, possibly some moving books, the sliding knife (was originally conceived as a self-moving planchette on a Ouija board), table-thumping, and some other stuff. Any ideas? If this new "haunt genre" seems to take off, then I can create a forum or something specifically for Halloween Seances!

My Haunted Attraction
Posted On 04/05/2007 06:04:27
Well, I'm new to HauntSpace but I'd like to share with all of you fellow Halloween/Haunt enthusiasts my dream. I have dreamed of owning a haunted house since childhood. After many setbacks, it appears my dream will be a reality in the 2007 season. I just looked at a two-story building in the ideal location. The building is used a fair so it has an open floor plan. This will allow me to set up walls any way I chose for maximum customization. The first year's budget is extremely small, but I can make it work.

My next step is recruiting volunteers and finding sponsors. If there is anyone in the vacinity of Rutland, Vermont and anxious to have a lot of fun and scare the hell out people, please contact me. I can use actors, operators, ticket handlers, etc. I could even use you help of you are not around rutland. Artists can show off their work!

Also, if you own a business in or around Rutland, Vermont and want to get your business name and logo out to over 10,000 people, please contact me for sponsorship info. You can also sponsor the haunt if you do not live in the area by donating props or services such as website design.

OK, so let me tell you a little about the Haunt. It is a professionally run attraction aimed for people teenaged and up (parental dicretion advised). There will be some blood, but not excessive gore. I am using a zombie theme because of the various options available. I am planning some illusions for the show and more than enough surprises. People with heart conditions should not attend this attraction. For more info, please feel free to contact me.

Since this is HauntSpace, I would also be interested in purchasing props. I would consider used and new props. If you have any you would like to unload, contact me. Please keep in mind though that my haunt will not use pneumatics this year; all props will be human-controlled. Well this blog entry is long enough. I am glad to be a part of a network of people who share my life-long passion for Halloween and haunting.
