Problems in pumpkin land
Posted On 06/07/2007 12:04:34
Well, 3 weeks ago I planted my pumpkins.  Despite the fact that my husband hates halloween and everything halloween related (including pumpkins), I was able to recruit his help in the planting.  3 weeks later, several rows are already 4-5 leaf plants...other rows (with the same seed mind you) appear bare.  Hmmm...strange.  But then I think back.  Oh yes...I planted the first 6 or so rows myself, and then good ol' hubby came and said he'd cover what I planted!  So I ask him, "Sweetie, how much dirt did you put on them seeds?"  To which he goes into some rant about not knowing anything about pumpkins/not remembering/do it yourself next time.  I took a close look at a few of the empty rows, and I'm seeing some are JUST starting to pop through (what the hell, did he cover em with a foot of soil or what?!?) Now the new field I'm not seeing much of anything.  I don't know what to do about that.  It could be because hubby also helped me plant that field.  It could be because the soil is somewhat rock-like in that field.  Or, it could be the varieties that I planted (that field had some rare seeds in it) just ain't very hardy.  I don't know.  I had thought about replanting that field with CT field making rows with fresh garden soil, but I don't want to disturb any of my rare seeds in the event that they decide to pop up.  Hubby also planted my ornamental corn, and I reckon he just closed his eyes and tossed the seeds over his shoulder.  I'm not seeing any attempt at a row, and they're poppin up all over the place, at all different heights.  GRRRR.  Anyhow, moral of the story...Don't make hubby do something he hates.
