Been away for some time.
Posted On 11/18/2008 16:16:24

Hello to everyone that has been wondering where I've been and what I'm up to.

First off, I hope everyone had a great Halloween season. Mine was kinda blah.

The day after Halloween, we had our car broken into, and our cd's and car stereo torn out. Cops are still looking for the thieves.

It also costed us 160 smackes to get a new window for the car.

Also, We are planning on getting a hearse before the end of the new year. We even have someone offering theirs to us. But first we have to get a new master cylinder, and front passenger side Caliper for it, before it can even stop. My fingers are crossed As I write this.

I was only able to go to 2 haunted houses this year. I went to the Haunted Barn, in Boggstown, which was pretty good. and I went to Necropolis in Indianapolis By way of complimentary tickets. And it was not so good. As in I got an email asking me not to review them.

So, I am currently working on my Etsy store, Junk-Punk. And I got to say, I'm kinda starting to dig this whole Steampunk thing. Right now, I am working on some wrist wallets, and one has a raygun mounted on it! FUN!

I hope to get together with some fellow haunters for the holidays, and kick back and maybe discuss the new year.

Well, that's all for now. Until then, many pleasant nightmares!

My Review of the Haunted barn in Boggstown, IN
Posted On 10/19/2008 03:47:53

Haunt Name: The Haunted Barn
Location: Boggstown, Indiana (Right across from the Boggstown Presbitarian Church)
Price: Free, But they take Donations

The Haunted Barn has been run for several years out of an old barn as a fundraiser for the Boggstown Presbitarian Church for when they buy presents for the needy. This was my first year to the haunt, as I had heard about it from a volunteer at the haunt about two years ago. When I got there, I saw that the parking was across the street, which was good, and we found a nice spot no problem. After talking to the man that runs the haunt, I had found out that all the workers in the haunt are volunteer, and all the donations made go to the church. I love the fact that one of the church's fundraisers is a haunted house attraction. And It's THREE STORIES!

Line: (7.5) - As I waited in line I saw that they were playing the old black and white movie "Frankenstein" Starring Boris Karloff, Which was great to see. I also got a kick out of some of the teenage kids asking the older folks, "What the heck is this movie?".
Groups were between 1 and 6, which is also good, cause you don't want too many people going through at once, cause then the monsters can't get the propper scare in.
My advise for the line would be to higher the minimum to 2 people. If there is one person by themself, Stick'em with a group. Also, They might want to look into having one or two monsters work the crowd/line. Get them psyched up into going in the haunt.

Acting: (5) - It was pretty good for a free haunt. The older Monsters would bang on the walls and yell at the kids, but seemed to freeze up when I would come by. I must admit, I'm 6'3" and almost 300lbs. But it was kinda sad to see the monsters as big as me not try to work me. I did like the fact that there was a chainsaw monster that got us before while we were still in the haunt, and then the other Chainsaw Monster got us on the exit.
My advise for that would be to try to rev the monsters up a little more, so that buy the end of the show, they're still running strong. Maybe a couple activities to get them riled up? And try to only use one person per character. Instead of two Micheal Myers, maybe put A Jason Voorhees in it somewhere. Also, do checks to make sure that they stay in their rooms, cause I had two instances when monsters were standing outside their rooms just talking. Kinda ruins the set up. You might also want to run those Chainsaws just a little longer.

Scenes/Decoration: (7.5) - Very Decent lighting in some areas. Other areas should have had different lighting or atleast more. I like how It wasn't an Overkill of Strobe Lights, like most haunts. But some rooms had the lights so dim, that you couldn't really see the scenes in certain rooms. Some of the props were very well done. The coffins looked great, and the hopping wooden crate was very good. Favorite room though was the torn white sheets room before the first chainsaw monster. I actually got a little lost for a split second in that room. And there were a lot of dummies in the rooms where a lot of people were going, "Wait...Is that real?" Always a good tactic in a haunt.
My advise in this area would be to make sure the lighting is better in some of the rooms that had more going on in them, so the customer can better appreciate the work that went into building this haunt.

Soundtrack/Music: (4) - Yes there were people screaming, and Chainsaws reving. But weren't too many other sounds going on in the house. If there were, it was too quiet to hear. There was one room that I could faintly hear a halloween spooky sound effects mix, and at the last room with Micheal Myers, they played the Halloween Theme.
My Advice would be to either have a couple more boomboxes to play musics in diferent areas of the house, or maybe try to have a central player and string speakers all throughout the barn.

Length: (7) - It felt like 45 minutes, but was more like 15-20, and That's great! It is also Three Stories! This was the first time I have ever visited a multi-leveled haunt. And it was a great expirience! The pace was good, until we caught up with the three groups in fron of us. but that can be for many reasons beyond their control.
But my advice would be to make sure that the monsters are doing a "Forward Scare". This is to insure that the customers are still moving forward, and you keep the pace going. Jumping infront of them is considered a "Backward Scare" and either holds up a group, or chases them backwards and we don't want that.

BONUS!
Micheal Myers: (7.5) - What I liked about the Micheal Myers twins they had was that they were both big, and that had the early style mask. What needed help was the fact that they had the wrong color coveralls(Tan), and they weren't really trying to act Like Micheal Myers. One was hopping around, and the other was patting an axe like he was mafia and I owed him money. Remember guys, If you're gonna portray a Hollywood Horror Icon, make sure you study him well. Rent some of the movies, if you have to. I would give the Myers a 3.75, but there were two, so double it.

Overall Rating: 38.5 - You have to remember that this is a free homegrown charity haunt. This isn't a Big Budgeted haunt that dumps tons of money into one scare. These people use what they have around them. And they are doing a great Job at it. I can't wait to go back next year. And If they charged for entry, I'd still be in line! So, won't you join me?

I got my face on MTV!
Posted On 09/29/2008 14:33:50

I totally just saw MTV news, and they were doing a report piece on the uprise of Steampunk culture. Now granted, I'm not a huge Steampunker, But everyone knows I'm all aout goggles!

Well, I was watching it, and they did a segment on one of my favorite Artists, Doctor Steel. As I was watching it, they played some clips of his videos, and they just put my mug right up on screen. I wonder if it was just apart of the time length for the video. But if it was out of the propper order, they selected that shot of my mug and my custom goggles to put on there.

YAY!

So now I got my mug on MTV in a news piece. Next, the world!

Post IN/OH haunter Gathering
Posted On 05/19/2008 22:37:16

Well, I think my blood pressure has gone down some, and thank god for that. I can finally relax.

But not saying anything bad about the haunt gathering. We did an awesome job working with what we got. Eric's Tombstone demo/MNT was very fun to do, And Sparky's FaceCasting demo was outstanding. I can't wait to order some of that alji-safe, and try it myself!

Stacey from Ashleys' Asylum did a tremendous job keeping things going smoothly.

Adam from HauntedIllinois.com was a real pleasure to talk to.

True, there weren't some things that were on schedule happen, but it didn't matter. We were so busy having fun and doing what we do, we were worn out before the end of the MNT.

But once again, it's making my brains kick into gear and ponder things... I have some Ideas, but I need to really look into some of them first before I make my leap.

Some people know what I am talking about, and if they feel they need to discuss it with me further, just PM me, and we will.

I still may take this chance, It may work out for the best. It may wither and die. But Life is about taking chances. And that's something I need to start doing.

Oh, And if anyone was wondering, I did get my idea of the hotwire cutter to work, but I need a hotter/more powerful soldering gun to pull it off excellently.

Time to think...
Posted On 05/16/2008 09:35:49

Man, I've had to deal with a lot of bs the past couple of weeks. And I've had this smile painted on for too long. I'm wondering if it's worth it. Especially when I find out that people are talking smack behind my back(No one here, thank god). After this weekend I need to make a decision hauntwise. But I can't talk to much about it here, cause they are out there reading everything I say.

All I know is I'm going out of my mind. Things shouldn't be this difficult to do.
