Well another Halloween has come and gone. As always it's bittersweet, I'm sorry to see this one go, but excited about how much more awesome the next will be. I started my Halloween this year at my second job at Party City. Short handed and extremely busy the volatile mob of procrastinators almost brought my day of days down with rudeness and sarcasm. But I survived intact, and I'm glad I did. After I arrived home, from 4:00 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. we had about 15 or 20 TOT's, Which I thought was a good turn out for our first Halloween at the new house. As far as the yard haunt goes, it wasn't really much compared to the awesome yard haunts I've seen on here. I had a tiny graveyard, a big spider, a spider victim, all bathed in orange x-mas ligts. Being a Halloween party animal, most of my Halloween decor is for indoor use. Next year I'll make a more detailed plan and be more prepared. All though I did get a few compliments, especially on the spider victim :) I've posted a few pics of the yard and porch. After all the fun at the house we suited up in our chosen Halloween gear and met up with some friends at Hammerheads, a local bar. It's located right next door to one of the cites bigger haunted houses so we where welcomed by the sounds of chainsaws chasing screaming teeny boppers out into the night :) We threw some darts, drank some beers, and danced to 80's music well into the wee hours of the evening. Down in the dance area they where screening Elvira movies on the wall next to us, and most of our fellow patrons where dressed out in full Halloween garb so I felt right at home. At the end of the night we caught a ride home with our designated driver and crashed shortly after we returned. All in all it was a great time. I hope everyone else had as much fun as we did!

Just wanted to wish everyone a very happy Halloween 2008! I hope everyone has a great time with whatever it is you've got planned. We'll be headed out to a local bar for the big evening, after handing out some treats to the local ghouls and goblins. I hope we get some turn out at our new house. I'll make sure to get some pics. Everyone be safe!
Well another Halloween party is come and gone *sigh* It was a great time! All though I have to admit I was a little worried after so many people backed out at the last minute I was afraid we wouldn't have much of a party. But a few unexpected, but welcome guests showed up along with everyone else. This year we tried to have a variety of things for guests to do. We had the fire pit going next to the graveyard for chilling out by the fire and making smores if they wanted to hang out outside. For the inside crowd we had a dance floor in the basement, the foosball table was going strong for a while. And we had a lot of food, we made a huge batch of chili, got fried chicken, cookies, chips, dip, and stuff like that. It wasn't a huge party , about 26 people, but definitely a fun one. And next year will be even better!!
Well the big day is approaching fast, too fast! Halloween still a few weeks away but, our party is this coming Saturday and we have much to do. Get the house in order, get the food, finish decorating, I need to pick up my costume, blah, blah, blah. On a lighter note we did carve the pumpkins last night, always a good time. I posted the pics on my profile. Anyway I hope this years party is a success. It's our first large gathering at the new house, and I don't want it to be lame. I will post pics of the party up Sunday, if anyone is interested. Cross your fingers for me. It's going to be a long week.
Happy haunting
So, why do I love Halloween so much? It may come from that fateful Halloween 10 years ago when me and a few friends decided to throw the most kick ass Halloween party ever. But I've loved Halloween since childhood. I used to love dressing up and going Trick-or-Treating, carving Jack-O-Lanterns, and decorating the house.
Even when it wasn't Halloween I was attracted to everything dark and creepy. I remember watching Unsolved Mysteries with bated breath whenever a ghost story was on, I used to spend my weekends watching Up All Night on USA with Gilbert Godfried and Rhonda Shears as they played so many campy horror movies, along with some cheesy 80's comedies, I spent my nights with Elvira, I hid under the covers while spying Tales From the Darkside, Alfred Hitchcock was a friend of mine, The Twilight Zone gave me chills, the Crypt Keeper kept me company too. I remember looking through Fangoria magazine while my mom stood in line at the grocery store, she'd never let me get it. I watched the Thriller video on its premiere and have never seen a better one since.
I love everything Goth although not much of my wardrobe is black and I've never worn make-up, except eyeliner a few times but that was for Halloween. Tim Burton is my favorite director. Vincent Price and Johnny Depp are my favorite actors. And Edgar Allen Poe is my favorite author. I spent hours in the dark playing Resident Evil and Silent Hill alone. But I never realized I was a Halloween freak until that party 10 years ago. To answer the question. I guess some of us are just born with a certain propensity for the dark and macabre. Although to look at me you'd never know I was one.
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy Hauntspace. Out of all the haunt sites and forums I've been to I feel most at home here. The people are great, and always willing to answer questions on the forum. I can't tell you how many times I've posed questions on other forums only to get little or no answer at all. I enjoy the groups too, it's a one stop shop for horror movie fanatics, Halloween party goers, haunters, and Halloween enthusiasts. There's something for everyone no matter how advanced or not their haunting tecniques are. It's a great site with so much to offer. Keep up the good work!!
There is an ongoing debate between many about which holiday is better, or more enjoyable. I think Christmas is a comfort holiday, you know what to expect. The warm glow of a Christmas tree, the smell of pine and pumpkin pie, hot chocolate, egg nog, big family gatherings with presents from Santa under the tree. Someplaces it snows, someplaces not so much.
Halloween is a little more unpredictable, a season for the celebration of the macabre. It's a chance for some of us, the haunters that is, to flex our creative muscles and give people an unforgettable experience, We put on more friend oriented parties on Halloween, and parties for the kids. We dress up in costumes from the scary to the ridiculous, we put on elaborate haunts to scare the kiddies and adults. And revel safely in the darker things, all in good fun. There is an aspect of comfort in Halloween little goblins running around looking for sweet treats, and glowing Jack o' lanterns on neighborhood porches. But also during Halloween it's exceptable to get a little crazy. Kind of like Mardi Gras where things that would seem completely out of place and off the wall are totally exceptable, even encouraged. I love Halloween and I think it's definitely the more fun and exciting holiday, but on the other hand I would find it hard to give up the warm familiar scenes of Christmas.
As the days slowly grow shorter and the nights grow cooler I look forward to the best season of the year, fall. When the trees become curtains and red, gold, and brown, the pumpkins are ripe and that autumn smell is in the air. I can't wait for Halloween this year, when the dark things come out to party at our humble haunted house. I look forward to Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie, heavy on the Cool Whip. To autumn walks by the river and a cool breeze against my face. I can't wait.
I went to Ironstock on Saturday. A short hour and 20 minutes from my house. It was alot of fun. We went to Candymoms candy making class which was very informative. We also got a copy of the Ironstock friends cookbook, there's a lot of really cool stuff in there. I saw the making of a FCG harness for the first time and I think I may be able to do it. We saw the Coffin Race, and the T-shirt toss. There where also several hearses parked. There was a lot of stuff to look at and demos to see. Unfortunately we couldn't make it to the Weasel Ball, A summer Halloween party. Check out my pics to see more. For Halloween fun and summer Halloween shopping you can't beat Ironstock!
