I have decided to create some items in crochet and knit for the Halloween season. I posted a photo of my tote bag front. I am in the process of re working it to make it smaller as it is quite large. I will be writing a pattern for it when completed. I am also working on an illusion knit skull and crossbones scarf that is pretty cool. I will post photos of it soon.

My skull tote bag pattern will be available for purchase when finished. I will post a link.

Dragon Con has come and gone for another year and what a year it was! Four days of insane running around, visiting with many friends, meeting new people, seeing all the wonderful costumes and art, shopping in the many different venues to shop in and not getting any sleep. It was great! I have posted a few photos in my gallery and have far moer on my webshots page. I will post the link at the end of this message.
One of the new musical groups to appear this year was a group that I think will be of special interest to many of you here. The name of the group is Serpenteens and they do a really cool selection of original music! They are "monster" rock, and are they ever great! You can hear some of their work on their web site, www.serpenteens.com. Be sure to check it out! You will be impressed, I promise!

Sorry I have not been here in a while, but I have missed you all!
We have had family issues that have taken me away from home and off the computer for months at a time, but, hopefully, things are quieter now.
One of the things that came from all the time away from the internet was that I rediscovered my passion for fiber arts! I have been doing a lot of original design crochet and am in the process of creating patterns for some of my items that will be available either free on my blog site (address to follow later, when I actually have something there!) or for sale on my etsy site. (www.copperscaledragon.etsy.com)
I am looking very forward to hearing from all of my friends here again! More later......

I almost forgot, you can check out my little Alien plushie, Fizzy-Pop in my gallery here.
I decided to upload aome images of my house as kind of a "getting to know you" thing. I do have an album on Webshots.com of these and others, but I thought you might enjoy them here. As you can see, my house is not very traditional. If you would like to see more, my albums are at http://community.webshots.com/user/copperscaledragon . There are several Halloween and Dragon Con albums, so you may enjoy a look around. Jane

I was out shopping for Halloween bargans on the 1st when I made a stop at the local Big Lots to look for skull necklaces. They had only a couple of display racks of things left, but it was all over the place, in the floor and generally piled up on the shelves. I was digging through, so I sat in the floor in order to see the bottom shelves better. While I was down there, a man came up to the opposite side with a small child in tow. This child was the supreme chatterbox, running on incessantly about what she wanted to buy, what her plans were for the rest of the day, what she saw that she wanted for Christmas and on and on. A very precocious child, having, I am sure, far outsmarted her dad a long time ago. Young and innocent did not pertain to this child in the usual way, she was just young. As I sat there digging through the items, they came around to my side of the display. To my back were the remains of the costumes offered at the store. Lots of it was little girl dress-up stuff, so naturally this caught our little chatterbox's attention. She ran to the rack and started seleccting items. I had to move my cart out of the way, so I had turned around and could see what the child was selecting. She had found a pair of long gloves, and a feather boa. she was digging a pair of kiddie high heels out of the pile with one hand and a feather fan with the other. "Ohhhh, Daddy! This is just what I have been wanting!" she cried. She put the shoes on, opened the fan, and began strutting around in the asile, shaking her behind a bit and fanning herself just so... . "See Daddy, I could be a madam! I always wanted to be a madam!" I looked at the dad and I thought his face was going to explode, it was so red! It was all I could do not to laugh, but I did not want to make things any worse than they already were for poor old dad. Looking form dad to back to the kid, there she was, strutting and fanning herself still chattering away. All she was missing was the teddy, some bling and a big blonde wig and she would have been in business! I muttered something about this being a great time to shop for dress-up clothes for kids, but he was not in the mood for conversation. I thought for a split second that dad was just going to pretend he did not even know her, but finally he gathered himself and took charge of the kid, taking her dress up items and tossing them back into the pile. He left the store, leaving his cart full of stuff sitting in the asile right next to mine. I wonder if he will ever shop in that store again.
Reading the post from Desmodus about his foather, I decided to share a very hard life story with you here as you may be able to identify somewhat. It was 1975 and my daughter was 5 years old. I was 26. My 19 year old sister had passed away 10 days after a many year bout with leukemia. She had made it a point to spend a good deal of time with my daughter knowing that she would not live to be a mother herself, which meant that my father and step-mother had also spent a good deal of time with my young one. My stepmom asked if they could keep my little girl that week-end to help ease their lonelyness and I had argeed. It was early Saturday morining and I had gone to town to help a friend move his shop into the new building he had purchased. About an hour into the move, I was hit with a strong need to go home. It was overwhelming! I HAD to go home!!! Nothing else would do. My firend was distressed as there were not many hands to help, but I was totally useless as I could not focus on anything but getting home NOW, NOW, NOW!!!! I had come down with a boyfriend who had gone to his salon for a couple of Saturday appointments. I went to him and begged him to take me home ASAP. He could see the distress on my face and did not question me. he arranged to have his partner deal with his clients and we left to make the drive to my family's house where my daughter and I were staying. I went inside, very greatful to be there but with a great feeling of dread. No sooner had I stepped inside than the phone rang. I knew this was the reason I had to be home. It was my brother. He told me that I needed to come to my dad's house right away, that my daughter needed me badly. I asked him what was wrong. he said only that I needed to come. It hit me, "Dad is dead, isn't he." "Yes", my brother siad. Please get here as soon as you can. I did not drive and the home was many miles to the south, across town from where I was. As it worked out, my step-dad drove up to the curb just as I was standing there trying to decide what to do. He drove me to my father's home. When I arrived I found that my father had shot himself that morning, with his shotgun. My stepmom and daughter had gone to visit my brother and his family and upon arriving back home, stepmom gave the mail to my child to take to grandpa in his room. When she walked in, she discovered his body. I know that my daughter was calling me. Even before the thing happened, I guess I had a priminition of evil doings as my first impressions happened before they had arrived back at the house, by about an hour. I think it may have been with my dad actually shot himself. This was one of the major events that has shaped my poor little girl's life. She developed borderline personality disorder and has never recovered from that day. I doubt I have either. I can never know the horror she experienced in that room. I only wish I could have saved her form it. Death can take many forms. Here, my young sister had been so ill and had so many challenges, death was a welcome friend, but my Father's tortured death and the eventual toll it has taken on the rest of us is something yet again. It is the kind that keeps you up nights wondering what you could have done to prevent the events of that day. I guess I will never know the answer to that, but there is not a day that goes by that I do not ask myself that question.
Ok, the BIG day is over for this year and we are on to new things. I feel that there must be some good ways for us to have fun with our Turkey day, don't you? Any thoughts on this???
I just wanted to take a minute to post to everyone on this site. I just spent a good deal of the last couple of hours going through the gallery images. While I did not see all of them, I did make it more than half way through and you people are an amazingly talented and creative group!!! Most all of the images were well done, original and interesting. With few exceptions, you have posted images that you own. I am so proud of all of you! WOW, guys and gals!! You are the BEST!!!! Jane
I am looking for ideas-help doing emodicons for use here. At first I thought I would just find some already done, but then I realize that I do not know about the copyright on these items and the last thing I want to do is get the site into legal trouble. I am working on a series of eyeball graphics to illustrate some of my list, but others are going to be more of a challenge. If anyone wants to jump in and offer help-suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. The list as I have it at the moment is: scary, a fright, ghostly, faded, dead, webbed (as in spider), floating (in mid air), buried, unearthly, eerie, fading into the nethervoid, spaced out, fried, bolied in oil, evil, ready to pounce, creepy, dark, obsessed, ethereal, building my own monster (creative).... wolfish ghoulish vampiric psychotic demonic hellish robotic insane crazed nightmarish horific demented batty impish wizard in training gargoylish Feel free to add to or suggest or design whatever seems appropriate, if you like. Hopefully we can come up with a set of unique and original designs. I think that including all of you in the work will be a great deal of fun. Jane
