Oct. is gonna suck this year.
Posted On: 09/29/2008 18:06:29

Well... It's going to suck for me that is. Every year, I host a haunted house. I am the only one who actually hosts a real deal scare in this area. So, surrouding area's tend to show up because they'd rather travel a few minutes than hours to see one.

Now, here is the good part... I have done absolutely ALL I can to get to have a haunt this year... But, I can't. The fire dept I work with would rather have a "spooky carnival" instead of a haunted house. Spooky Carnival = Just carnival games setting up around the fire dept...

I've checked around EVERYWHERE for a place and can't find anything due to people with their nose stuck in Trail Fest.

As long as I am in this little -censored-  area, I may as well give up on haunts due to the fact that Halloween no longer exists here.

Ah... I feel your pain. Don't ever give up- you can do your own thing next year. Looking at your pics, you obviously have talent. I have been waiting probably about ten years to get a professional haunt up and going. It looks like 2009 might just be the year it happens. 10 years! Don't ever give up.

Do you know that it's going to happen that way?

Isn't there anyway that you could make it your own, theme wise? Last year a friend of mine did a Spooky carnival. He was the host & doorman for it. Even though he was totally in character... he came over to me & quitely said hello I'll talk to you in a bit.  lol There was a twisted carnival tune that the colored lights flickered to. The trail was twisted back & forth, it was hard to tell the props from the actors. At the end patrons were greeted by people that juggled flames & ate them. They did their best to point out the donation box as we left. Have you seen the series two episode of Torchwood called "They come out of the Rain"? It's about a traveling dark carnival, that's only in town during the Summer when it rains. People mysteriously disappear & are never heard from again.

It's too bad that you live so far away, otherwise you'd be welcome at my haunted maze.

The "spooky carnival" the fire dept is going to have is just like one big flea market with a Halloween theme. It's actually quite sad. They've tried this before, and never made any money back. They also tried a "Halloween Dance" and ended paying the DJ for being the only person who actually showed up. A haunted house is the only thing that actually brings them money. Seeing that people would rather go into a haunted house than any of the other crap they're planning for. Everytime we had a haunted house, we would raise enough money to buy new equip...

When the community center had them, they set up everything with it. Mostly because the community center is a really big place... The fire dept... It's on the outskirts of town in a small building. The community center had games, a huge walk-through horror maze, a haunted house, and a dance. And they made at least $50,000.

I even offered to go to the community center and check about having a haunted house, dance, and games there in the fire dept.'s name to get to make 2x as much money. The fire dept.'s answer "We don't get along well with Tim"... Tim is the manager of the place... The reason why they don't get along well with him is because Tim was going to charge them for a "fire/ems only" party. For that, he would have had to close down the community center for everyone and only allow them in. How much was he going to charge them? $100 for one night... That's all...

There is another guy in this area that has haunted houses but he doesn't like me do to the fact that he believes the rumors about me.  But everyone who works with him, know's me and actually requests that I do the designs for the haunt. But since he hates me and all, he doesn't want anything to do with me. So, let him be like that. I try not to get mixed up with people like him anyway.
