Coincidence?
Posted On: 09/26/2007 22:20:09

I just purchased a copy of "The Secret Laboratory Journals of  Dr. Victor Frankenstein" by Jeremy Kay on Amazon.com.  While leafing through it for the first time, I came across a map of a small section of Germany showing the Frankenstein castle and some surrounding towns.  One of the nearby towns on the map is Frankethal, where my, I think about 10 greats-grandfather left in 1709 to come to America.

I got a chill up the back of my neck!!!

Benedictus Wenerich (spelled Vendrick in English) was my nine greats grandfather from Frankenthal, and was one of the Palatines who came to America, through Rotterdam and England in 1709-10.

I don't know why it had never struck me before, the similarity between the town name Frankenthal and the family name Frankenstein.  Is there anyone out there who knows enough German to know what the difference is between the endings ...thal and ...stein?

   I'll dig for more clues!
