For 20 years I have lived at the same house. Up until 16 years ago we could leave our cars unlocked. Well, saturday has left me very uneasy. Due to work, and getting the garage ready, I haven't set my cemetary up yet. The one side of our house is for my grandson who is 3. It's cutsey. One of those hidious blow ups, a spider that lights up and raises his front legs, a 4 foot light up ghost and a chessey little fense. But my grandson, and the small kids in the neighborhood love it. So, saturday night, while we were at dinner, someone tried to steal the blowup. It wasn't the wind, since the liter stuff was still in place. And the blower, which was staked down, was torn up stakes and all. And it was unplugged. This was a fete in it's self because it's a tight fit. Hard to plug in and harder to unplug. I beleive my neighbor accross the street probably chased them off, but I haven't seen them yet to ask. Of course, I had to fix it. My grandson refused to go in the house till his Myga (his name for me) fix it. But now I'm worried. I've got some expensive stones. Do I run the risk of having some hodlum stealing them? Or do I just put the cemetary in the back yard now, were no one but the party goers will see it? I wanted to do it today but I'm really torn. Any ideas? I just feel, if my stones get stolen I won't do this next year. So a 20 year tradition will die. Thanks for your help guys. Oh yeah, my lawn needs one more cutting. Should I cut it or have the over grown look for my stones?
First let me say, I'm exhausted. I started to work last thursday, at Spirit Halloween. The first day, It was the manager, the other assist. and myself. We had to clean an old Hollywood Video store. This place had been empty for over three years and was filthy. We worked over 11 hours on it as well as interviewing walk ins. After washing the windows 5 times and it still looked like c--p we said enough. Of course, we were standing in a dust cloud from the stuff on the floor. We decided to go home and try again in the morning. We had a shop vac and a dirt devil bagless at the store, but I decided to take in and old bag upright I had in the shed. I learnt something that day. If you don't want dust flying around, use a bag vac. No dust, and the floor looked great. Of course, we went through 4 bags but it was worth it. Now, as for the windows, we hired a fireman who saw how difficult it was to clean the windows and he told us why. There had been a fire in this store and it was soot on the windows. Windex wouldn't cut it. We then used clorox cleaner and finnally you could see out. We built all the H frames and when we finished on friday we were told the work crew would be in on Monday to set up the walls. I had off, and today I go in at 8am, hopefully to get stock to put up.
Now, as for the wedding. I checked with the bride and she thinks this is a rockin idea. I built some more head stones yesterday, and worked on the birdbath. The plan is to have everyone walk through the grave yard, towards and old shak that will have a sign posted towards the voodoo ceremony ground and the party. I saw some old paneling yesterday at a dumpster that would work perfect for the shak, so I bought it home. My daughter was embrassed, couldn't you have done that at night? Kids. They don't have a clue. Anyway, the invites are still in the planning stage but they will be mailed in a coffin with a voodoo doll and some other trinkets. This party should rock, if all goes well. Later boils and ghouls, it's off to the coal mines for me:>
Lately, when I get up at 6am, to put the hounds out there's a chill in the air. The trees around here are starting to change and there's that certain smell. It brings to mind seasons that have passed, people I have known and lost, and gives me a feeling of anticipation of whats to come. For some, spring is the time for new beginings. For me, it's fall. I love that it's a crisp feeling in the air, that it gets darker earliar and that soon it will be time to start putting up the decorations. I live and breath Halloween, as does everyone on this site I suppose, but it feels so right when the season starts to change. In a few weeks, my carpenter friend will put the walls up for the mausaleum. This will then be painted and arranged for the wedding which will take place on Halloween. The grooms mother is making the floral arrangements and helping with the food. It's his father that is doing the walls and I more of a aunt then friend, I'll be performing the ceremony. There is much to do and little time to do it. I have half done props, ideas for new ones, the garage needs to be reworked before the walls go up, and I start a new job tomorrow morning. Isn't this season wonderful! I love it!! Well, my dear fiends it's off to the dungeon to create. I do hope you all have an unpleasant day:>
Okay, I'm out of the coffin. I let the hounds from Hell out, feed the cats, put coffee on for my little girl, poured a glass of Diet Pepsi, started the dryer, put a load of clothes in, and now I'm at the keyboard. I've actually been here a couple of times after HF. But I'm missing the capacity to think. I'm exhausted. But here it goes. As a merchant HF was horrible. The dealer room didn't have alot of regulars, nor did it have a lot of merchants. And the merchants who were there were complaining about the room, lack of customers, having to pay for parking, etc. Now as a merchant you know when others are complaining for real or for show. These guys weren't actting. They were seriouse. As for us, I'd have sooner been walking around or at home doing laundry then there. Still, I made a comtact from 6 Flaggs and we're negoiating about them buying some corpses. As well as meeting some truely great people from Hauntspace:> They actually made my weekend. I met Hauntmaster, Ravinhair, Beadyeyedbrat and clan, and many others who I'm ashamed to say I forgot their names. I'm great with faces bad with names. And they looked out for my daughter Tabatha over the weekend. Thank you all. For all you youngin's on this site, your parents NEVER stop worrying about you, no matter what your age. I probably, should have spent the weekend at the con. The drives alot longer then previouse years. And with some of my health issues it was a job to stay awake driving home. But, when you have 1 min pin, 2 yorkies, a rabbit and 17 cats someone has to be home to feed and care for them. My daughter took pics for me and hopefully I'll get them posted soon. Untill then, everyone do have an unpleasant day:>
PS I was hired at Spirit Halloween and I start thursday. So now I really have to push to get things ready for Halloween. Bye for now
As a lot of you already know, this is Horrorfind Weekend in Maryland. Quite a few of my Hauntspace fiends are already there. I live in Maryland and I'll be arriving around noon to set up. I am a typical cancer. I worry about everything. So I'm alittle apprehensive about the con and about meeting members of my Hauntspace family. And nothing so far today is going right. I can't get the printer to print the new business cards I made, I can't find the white high heeled sandals for Marilyn Morgueroe, and the fountains I made for the con aren't dry (it was chillie here last night so that's why). Any way, last night I received a call from my daughter. Now she lives in Maryland also, in fact she lives with me. But she always stays at the hotel , arriving a day early. She's what I call our PR person. We've made alot of contacts because of her. So it never bothered me till now that she spent the weekend there. She calls me last night, while I was fighting with the printer. She said I'd never beleive who she was partying with. Knowing my daughter, I didn't. She said some of her friends from previouse cons had friends who knew me. It turned out, my Hauntspace fiends were there and they were all partying together. To this I say, NO FAIR! NO FAIR!!
OK fiends, some of us need your help. I asked about monster mud being used outside and got others who want to know particulars on it's use. I am not a tuturial sort of person, ask poor pennywise he'll contest to this:> Is there a tuturial already done we can draw from? And if not, can one of you more professor like individuals lend a hand here. Trust me, you have a ready and egar class. Thanks guys:>
Well, everyone knew the new room for the garage was to be an Egyptian tomb. I had redone the floor plans to spruce up the place and prepare for the next room. This was to be built next year and was going to be a crypt. Unless I came into some seriouse money. Or I had a rich relative who left me everything and died, AGAIN. Everything was set, that was the problem. Now, let me fill you in on a few things. Halloween with me is a big deal, just like with all of you. When I had a job, I took off. As we all know, to do a halloween party, and do it right, takes alot of planning and time. Seane set. We had a bar-b-que this past sunday, trust me it was no one you knew. Larry, my carpenter, was there with his wife who is my best fiend. He and I were discussing the room and what was needed, when she announced their son was getting married and wanted Aunt Oda, the name is another story, to officiate. Since I had married his parents and said it would be great. Now what day are they getting married? Yeah, you guessed it.....HALLOWEEN! I looked at her like she had 3 heads. After I assured myself she still only had 2, I asked her if she knew what day that was. She smiled and said friday. Now if she had a brain, I'd have said she had brain freeze but this wasn't the case. I got my calender and told her the only way I could do it was if they got married here. That wouldn't be a problem. How many people? Not many. Who's footin the bill? Larry and I. You do realize, there will be people here they don't even know. And that this whole area and garage will be dressed for Halloween. They think it's cool. What about their hall? Well, if they have it here they won't need one. Now, at our Halloween party, in fact all our parties, I supple the main course and everyone brings something. Not to mention, I invite my guest and let them bring fiends as well. So, needless to say, they'll now be a wedding on Halloween. So my tomb will have to wait till next year and we'll build the crypt instead. It's really a much better place for a wedding. Stainglass window over the slab, funeral flowers every where. Yes, this will be much better. Well, boils and ghouls, I'll keep you all informed of the progress. Until then, do have an unpleasant day:>
Like most of you, I have a myspace page. One of my friends is Lost and Found in Ohio. They always have odd sort of information concerning death and burial. Todays was great. There's a restaurant, which just opened in the Ukraine. What makes this one so different, is it's in the shape of a coffin. It's 20 metres long, six mitres wide and six metres high. It's decorated with wreaths and dozens of normal size coffins The menu concsists of Nine Day and Forty Day salads, these are named after mourning customs not the length of time they've been around. And a dish called Lets meet in Paradise. Each table has a single candle on it and some flowers. Te complete article is posted on www.kava.lviv.ua, a local Ukrainian website. The restaurant is called Eternity. And it's the work of a funeral parlour in the town of Truskavets near the polish boarder. There are a few pics on the site in case your interested. To bad it's so far away, I'd do lunch. Well that's it from the world of the strange. Oh yeah, please don't ask me what a metres is. I haven't a clue. Do have an unpleasant day
Hell-o all! As most of you have seen, I've added a few more pictures to my site. I often talk about the garage and I added some of these to give everyone an idea of the size. It had been my late husbands dream, it's now my fun house. Some of the items that are pictured are a knight and a Mortisa chair. The knight cost me $60 at a nursury around Halloween. The chair I bought at a thrift store for $5. The church pew was a freebie. They were tearing down the building and was going to leave it in the rubble. Now, for my doll Lavina. She's the small bucky. Her feet have to be cut off accross the toes to fit doll shoes. Her hair is a dolls wig and her skin is latex and cotton. I make the clothes myself. I also make Mortuary Rig and Mortis, Mother Bates, a Cryptkeeper type doll, and I'm working on Boo Boy and his female counterpart from the portraits. All the corpses, mummys, and dolls on my site I make. I've also made some corpse heads for Phirna Films latest horror flick. I love working on this stuff and any thing concerned with Halloween. So if I can answer anymore questions for ya, please feel free to ask. To one and all, Do have an unpleasant day
