be a scream queen
Posted On 11/20/2009 07:58:08
Gene Fenton is recruiting Scream Queens to pose in promotional photographs with his sculptures of dinosaurs and other monsters.

Who - or what - is a "Scream Queen"? [No, nothing to do with "adult entertainment" or Hugh Hefner and his less tasteful imitators!]

Originally, a Scream Queen was the beautiful but seemingly helpless female lead in the B-grade horror and sci-fi movies of the 1950s. Menaced by monsters and mad scientists, they would usually (but not always) require rescue by the dashing male lead.

The most elegant (but often strong-willed and heroic) of Scream Queens is actress Allison Hayes who starred in The Unearthly (1957) and Attack Of The 50-Foot Woman (1958).

If you're interested in posing as a Scream Queen, contact him at gfenton@mail.microserve.net or call (724) 349-0382. Gene Fenton is located in western pennsylvania.

You can see slide shows of his promotional photos at www.genefenton.com

A Call for Artists

The Associated Artists of Butler County Dares to present

October 26 through
November 16, 2007
In the Underground!

The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.
H. P. Lovecraft

Fear is one of the primordial emotions, a holdover from a time when humans were the prey animal of dozens of predators. We experience terror from being trapped in a situation beyond our control and understanding. We feel dread and trepidation entering to someplace alien and forbidden. We experience terror being hunted by something more powerful then ourselves.
Despite the danger, people seek out these emotions through various types of media. From the earliest cave art and campfire tales to the latest movie, horror has fascinated people. We attempt to control these feelings by expressing them in a controlled fashion.
The A.A.B.C. intends to enter the forbidden with the Second Art of Horror Show. Artists using various types of media will share their visions of fear and terror. The show will be on display from October 26 through November 16 2007 in the Underground Gallery of the Art Center, renamed the Slaughterhouse.
New this year is including The Spirit Café to the Art of Horror with local writers reading their works throughout October. Also new is to host a film festival showcasing local filmmakers exploring their visions of terror.

For Opening Night, The Art of Horror encourages everyone dress for the occasion in their favorite costume. Prizes will be awarded to the best costumes.

About the Art Center

The Art Center is the oldest cultural non profit organization in the county. Our rich history began in 1934 as our intent to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, as well as to encourage and foster the arts.

Over the past seventy years these aspirations have been met with exhibits of local and visiting artists. From 19 original members, our ranks have grown to over 300 members.
