I used a plastic skull and covered it with a layer of paper mache followed by a layer of cotton mache. Take the cotton and apply it like would for cotton/latex corpsing.

So from start to finish: take skull (plastic or foam) and cover with a layer of aluminum foil. Next mix up some paper mache glue (flour and water works). Unroll some cotton balls (or use batting) Paint on some mache glue and lay the cotton onto it. Then paint over the cotton with more mache glue, making sure it is totally saturated. This makes a nice hard shell...when dry remove from the skull carefully. (I do only one half at a time).
