My New Halloween Site
Posted On 08/16/2007 19:54:24

Hey folks, I just created a website to share all of my halloween interest. I'll still be calling this place my home, but my new site will give me plenty of room to sotre pics, post how to's (I'll post some here to, when I make some that is) and other stuff. Just thought I'd share it so you guys can check it out. I've just started it so there's not much there but give me time...I'll keep adding to it.

A Cheap Chain Fence Idea

A Cheap Chain Fence Idea

Here is a chain fence idea I came up with. I have seen this type of fence around some old graves here in my state. They are not overly popular but they do exist. I went with this design this year as I had a pile of PVC pipe that was given to me, so I just had to buy the chain and pipe fittings. It is also a quick and easy build and can be taken apart easily and most important to me, take up very little space in storage!

Here's how I did it: First, I dug out some 1 inch pipe from the pile of scrap PVC pipe in my back yard. I had several sticks of 1 inch pipe that were 4 to 8 feet long.

Next I put a tee fitting on the end and cut it to 3 feet in length to make the posts.

My next step was to take a 1 inch cap fitting, drill a 1/4 inch hole through the center so that I could insert a 6 inch spike nail so that the head of the nail was to the inside of the fitting.

I ran a test of how the posts would work when assembled. I stuck the spiked caps in the ground, drove the spikes in with a hammer and then inserted the post in the cap. The result was good, at least to me, the post was held upright.   After I had made a few posts and caps, I painted these black using the Krylon Fusion paint for plastics and PVC.

After painting all of the caps, I inserted the spike nails. These were then completely assembled.

I assembled one post and ran some of the black plastic chain through the tee fitting on top.

It took me all of 20 or 30 minutes to cut, paint and assemble an 18 foot section of chain fence.

This project was very quick and easy to build, not to mention fairly inexpensive. I already had the pipe, all I had to buy was the paint, pipe fitting, spikes and chain. I would estimate the cost of this 18 foot section of fence at about $25, not counting the pipe I already had.

Here's what you need:

  • 1 inch PVC pipe

  • 1 inch tee fittings and caps

  • Black paint

  • Black plastic chain ( I got mine from Lowe's )

NOTES:

20 feet of chain was sufficient for 18 feet of fence, with the swag in the chain.

PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN DRIVING THE SPIKES IN THE GROUND. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR WATER LINES, GAS LINES AND ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE BURIED BEFORE YOU DO THIS.

Some issues I did find, the posts stand upright, but the type of ground you drive the spikes in will make a difference. Softer ground caused the posts to wobble a little. Firmer ground held the posts without any wobbling. I figure you can take a small metal rod and drive in the ground behind the loose ones and use electrical tape for more support. I am currently considering other options for anchoring the posts in the ground.

The Devil's On The Loose Lyrics

The Devil's On The Loose
Singer: Waylon Jennings
Writer: Larry Willoughby
Album: Turn The Page
RCA Records
Listen Here (poor quality)

There's something in the world, going on
I can't understand it and it sure feels wrong
Bad is looking good, good is looking bad
Sister, brother, brother ya'll I think we've been had
Ooooh ooohh the devil's on the loose
Woooaah You got to tell him no

Uptown, downtown every where you look around
Inside, outside sneak up from the backside
Front door, closed doors, what does it hold in store
Turn on, turn off taking what will get you lost
Ooooh ooohh the devil's on the loose
Woooaah You got to tell him no

Shoot up, shoot out, what's a life all about
payday, mayday, too broke to get away
black cats, black cats, don't let them cross your path
Sad scene thirteen, every day is Halloween
Ooooh ooohh the devil's on the loose
Woooaah You got to let him go
Ooooh ooohh the devil's on the loose
Woooaah You got to tell him no

Ooooh ooohh the devil's on the loose
Woooaah You got to tell him no

Hey folks,
I finally found a copy of that song that I've been looking for. It's by Waylon Jennings and called Devil's On The Loose. I'll try to make an MP3 of it and post a link for those interested.

Thanks,

Mystery Halloween Song???
Posted On 02/07/2007 17:52:34
Hey folks,
I'm being "haunted" by a song I heard several years ago when I was a kid. The bus driver on my schoolbus was playing it around Halloween. I can't figure out what the song is or where to get a copy. I only know one verse that goes...

Black cat, black cat
Don't let it cross your path
Sad scene thirteen
Every day is Halloween

Oooohh the devil's on the loose

Heeeyyy we got to get away

If anyone recognizes this I would be ever so thankful if you could let me know. It's driving me nuts!

Happy Haunting.....

A Good Night
Posted On 10/31/2006 19:55:22
Well this was a good night. It's only my second year setting up. Last year I only got two, count'em, two ToTers. But this year I got eleven.

That may not sound like many to some of you guys but around here you don't see large numbers of ghouls and goblins on Halloween. At least I haven't for several years. If this is any indication I'm gonna have to buy even more candy and step up the decorations more next year.

Ah yes, a whole year to get ready for it....

Mad Rush
Posted On 10/29/2006 19:55:02
Well, here it is folks. Two days to the big day. I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish everything I was working on or even be able to set up period. Of course at the last moment I discovered I could do something after all so the mad rush began. Gotta get this done, gotta put that up, do I have time for this?...I'm sure we're all familiar with that scenario.

I didn't get to do everything I wanted but I am pleased with the results. I have a few more minor touch-ups to do but the major work is done. Now to relax somewhat and just enjoy the spooky atmosphere.

I hope everyone else has a fun time setting up and not getting to stressed out.
