JAY,I yelled as I hugged Megan. Things were looking up for us. After I introduced everyone, We all sat around to hear Megan's story. She hadn't found Jay so she was on her way back when the Zombies attacked her.Megan was firing and running , she was almost bit a couple of times. Just as she was running out of breath Jay appeared and was firing like a wildman.

Jay said he convinced her to come back to his place and regroup, but the door had been locked. After all we had all been thu we were all so happy to see them both.

Jay was proud of us but disappointed we busted up his best furniture. He explained that for some reason the Zombies were afraid of this area.That was okay with me but I wondered why.

Jay said his radio was on the fritz and was on the way to use ours. Megan had explained the situation about ours to him, still Jay though there might be parts that could be used to fix his. Plus he could bring back more supplies. He had a good point so we made plans to go the next day.

Only Jay figured only one other person was needed to go with him, less to worry about. So Kevin said he'd go leaving me and Megan  to catch some time together.Jay thought that was a good plan since I had been worried about my sister.We all had a great nite, no banging and a great meal. Afterwards the girls made alist of what we needed from the house.The list was small allowing the guys to bring back more amno.

The next day Jay and Kevin headed out.The girls spent time chatting thus  leaving Hank and I time to relax and shoot the bull.After all Jay was Awesome, if anyone could get us out Jay could. And with no Zombies around we felt safer than ever before.But not safe enough to leave the door unlocked.

By noon they were not back but we figured that maybe Jay was working on finding all the parts he needed to fix his radio.By 2pm there was a knock at the door. I was so glad they had arrived home safely. But when I open the door Jay almost feel into my arms.He was covered in blood.There was no Kevin behind him.

I laid him down and called the others. We cleaned him up and checked for bites, he had none. Then Jay told us what had happened.

It was a battle getting there but they made it unharmed. Got the supplies and had found parts for the radio.On the way back Kevin saw Betty and freaked out.Kevin had frozen and was just screaming at the Zombies around her. He was trying to get Betty to come to him. Jay grabbed him and started firing at the Zombies when Kevin turned on him. Jay shot Kevin in the arm before he could shoot him and tried to drag Kevin and fire at the same time. The Zombies were all around them and he couldn't carry Kevin any further so he let him go and tried to fight them off. But there were too many so he left Kevin.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing I had made Jay in my mind to be an Uberhero and I was really starting to get scared again.

Worse Kevin had the backpack with the radio parts. Could it get any worse, I wondered.

By the time we reached the other end of the island we were tired, thirsty and hungry. but most of all I could see the fear in everybodies eyes. We hadn't run into anymore Zombies but we also had run out of tree and bush cover. To get to Jay's place we had to be out in the open for longer  then 15 minutes and that was at a dead run.

The worst of it was not knowing my sister was alive or if Jay's place was safe. I decided to go alone. If it was safe the others could follow. Or if not they had to go back. I gave Kevin the key even distraught he was the best man to take over.

I ran towards the cabin, I ran for my life and the lives of my friends. When I got there the door was closed but not locked. I ran in screaming Megan's name and praying she would answer. She didn't and I feared the worse. But I checked the house slowly, my gun at the ready. Nobody was there no Zombies, no Jay and no Megan.

I closed the door and ran back to my friends, my heart was breaking but I had to take care of them now. When I reached them they could tell that I had bad news. Still I wanted to get them to the house before I told them anything.So we ran and when we got to Jay's cabin the door was still closed. I locked it and had them all sit while Sue and I got them something to drink.

I wanted to get Sue alone and tell her that we had to keep the others calm. I didn't have a plan but the fact that there were no Zombies around seemed like a good sign. No Megan or Jay was the down side.

Jay's cabin seemed to be stocked like the house but on a smaller scale. We had enough food and drink for some time and we were near the sea. We had a good view all around us. that was all the good news. The bad was the windows and the fact that there was no basement only an upstairs. First thing we needed to do was make sure the three windows were covered. we took the doors off the upstairs rooms. We also tore up some furniture too. I figured blocking the windows inside and out was a good idea. Jay had shutters on his windows and we nailed them shut with boards on the outside. We used the doors on the inside of the windows.

We made alot of racket and not one Zombie appeared. For some reason they were avoiding this place, why didn't make me feel secure.We had been through too much not to wonder what was going on.

We talked it over at dinner and came up with nothing. Just then there was a bamming at the door. We all jumped and no one said a word.Then I heard my sister yelling to open up the door. This time nobody tried to stop me from opening the door. I flung it open with my gun ready, what I saw left me speechless. Not only was Megan there but so was Jay!!!

I couldm't sleep my 12 hour shift started in 6 hours and I just couldn't sleep. Between the banging and cabin fever I had had enough. almost four months here and no way out in sight.I decided to go get a drink thinking maybe that would help relax me.

As I walked into the kitchen I spotted Sue and Megan chatting. Sue was on duty and I figured Meg could not sleep either. "Hello my favorite girls I said jokingly," They both jumped and Megan just left the room. "What was her problem, should I go talk to her?' I said. Sue said it was just girl ralk and Megan was just embrassed. If I wasn't so glad to be alone with Sue I might have pursured Megan.  Man I had to go for it now. I took Sue's hand and pulled her down on my lap. She protested saying she had to work. But I assured her it was okay I just wanted to talk for abit. Man looking into those big brown eyes took my breath away and before I knew it I was kissing her. More important she was kissing me. she slid her arms around my neck and toyed with my hair as I told her how long I wanted her to do that. We made a date for our next days off together to spend our time together.

She slid off my lap and giggled. She now knew it wasn't a gun in my pocket. Me I turned red but Sue just gave me another kiss and went on her rounds. I got my drink and went up to bed.

My alarm woke me up and I slid out of bed still tired but ready to do my shift. I could smell breakfast and realized I was starving. After getting dressed I wanted to check on Megan first. Her room was empry and her bed unmade. Megan was a neatfreak and I figured she was in the bathroom. I went on to breakfast and Hank and Terri saw me comming and greeted me.  Kevin was cooking and it smelled great. I got my food and sat down. I knew Sue was probably sleeping so I asked about Betty. Kevin said she wasn't feeling well.We all waitted for him to finish but he ducked his head and started to eat.Kevin and I were on duty today so I figured we would talk later. Megan and Betty had the next 12 hours so I needed to know where she stood.By the time I finished my meal Megan had not showed up.

I excused myself and went to check up on her. Her room was in the same condition and I was starting to get really worried.She wasn't in the bathrooms nor the basement. No one had seen her since last nite. I had to wake Sue up and find out what was going on.Sue wasn't sleeping but waitting for me. She looked scared.

By the time Sue finished talking about their discussion, I knew what my sister had done. I drug Sue back downstairs and made her tell the others. I wanted to kick things, throw things but I stayed calm. It seemed Todd had told Megan about a tunnel that could only be open from the inside. Megan had made up her mind that she was going to Jay's place. She knew I wouldn't let her so she went alone. I yelled at the group, "We have to go after her." But as I looked at each one of them They hung their heads.My friends were willing to let my sister die but I wasn't. Sue would not tell me where the tunnel was she said Megan made her promise not to tell me if she didn't come back by tomorrow nite. That left only the front door as I ran to it Kevin grabbed me and Hank punched me.

When I woke up it was dark and I was tied to the bed. Sue was sitting beside me crying. I couldn't look at her for fear I'd call her a Bitch or much worse. I just yelled at her to leave me alone. Kevin came in and explained that we could not run out there half-cocked, we needed a plan. That we couldn't stay were we were either. He untied me after making me promise to listen to him.

We were going hunting.Hank, Kevin and I were gonna get rid of as many Zombies as we could and try to get to Jay and Megan. We needed to know more about the Zombies. We needed to know around how many they were and how they came about. He figured this Jay person must have a radio at the least.

We went downstairs to tell the girls. Betty was even there and Kevin was not telling us the whole truth. Betty looked real bad, almost crazy. We explained the plan to the others and asked the girls to stay behind not sure on if we could protect them too. Betty screamed like a mad woman that she was not staying in the house without Kevin. I knew then that the other girls were not gonna stay either.So we had better get them ready for the worst.It was all or nothing. We decided to go now. All of us armed to high Heaven.We had the front door key and we could get back in. We decided the tunnel was our best way out. Sue led the way. When we got to the end Hank went first to help the ladies out. Our first bit of luck no Zombies. We all made it out safely and began our journey. We could hear them banging on the house but was a distance away. We started towards Jay's place when a Zombie stumbled into our path. He went right for Sue but Betty jumped in front of her all wildeyed, yelling at him to go away. He grabed her and started bitting her before we could get him off. Kevin bashed him in the head with his gun. The idea was to keep still and not shoot unless we had no choice. I prayed the Zombies had not heard Betty. The bamming on the house stopped and we started running. Kevin was trying to carry Betty and run but she was still screaming and trashing. Hank yelled at him to leave her cause she was a gonner anyway. Sue and Terri  were right behind me and were very composed.When we finially stopped running we had lost Kevin and Betty.Most important we had lost the Zombies for now.We were trying to catch our breath when Kevin appeared. He had lost Betty, he couldn't carry her and she just ran off, he said as the tears ran down his face. Sue hugged him and we got our bearings.

We were gonna make it if we could just elude the Zombies.

A month and a half had passed and no rescue. While the others were talking I was thinking about our situation. Day and night the banging continued, we slept in shifts. I could tell we had to come up with a plan. But my thoughs were on the people around me, and how they depended on me.

Megan I could understand we always had each other. She was born first and was the one who always wanted to try new things. Me I was happy to read my books and listen to my tunes.Everybody said if we were the same sex we'd be identical. We had the same dark looks with curly brown hair and green eyes.I was proud of my twin especially now.

Sue hadn't been in our lives long she had just moved a year ago from Ohio, but her and Megan became fast friends. And I had hoped my girlfriend. Sue was tiny and had blond hair with these huge dark brown eyes. I fell for her as soon as I laid eyes on her, but my shyness held me back. It still held me back me even though this trip I was sure I would score. Worried about getting laid, sounds childish now but the thought was still there.

Hank and Terri I knew fron school but we were not really friends. We had Jorge and Todd in common but that was it. I mean they were cool and all but I never liked being the spare tire so I usually never saw them outside of school. Jorge and Todd  thinking about them hurt like hell. Especially since I was comming around to the idea that Todd was now one of them.  The way things were going he had to be. We hadn't seen him yet but nobody wanted to look out the windows.

Jorge man we would get tore up together. Whenever his on and off girlfriend dumped him we would hang. I missed his laugh, could use some of that now.Now Todd was a jerk, but a jerk Megan liked. He treated her fine so I cut him some slack. Besides I had know him since we were in diapers. Neither he nor Jorge deserved what they got.

Megan calling my name snapped me out of my thoughts. She wanted to know what I thought of their plan.Ashamed I had to admit I didn't hear them. Before we could talk about it there was a crash upstairs.

Hank ,Kevin and I rushed up the stairs. Climbing in the window was Todd.Kevin wasted no time and shot him. Todd fell back out the wndow and I rushed forward to see how he got there.Todd was holding onto the ladder and trying to climb back up. "Sorry Man," I said and blew his brains out. There were more of them down there trying to climb up. We kept firing until they ran away, then we pulled up the ladder.

Hell now the Zombies were planning. It was too much for me to process. But I knew we had to protect ourselves. Boarding up the windows and keeping watch was a must. As much as we didn't want to look outside we had no choice now.

And then the banging started again!!!!

We'd been on the island a week and moods were wearing thin. Megan thought Amanda would not make it thru the night.Betty started crying again, thank God Kevin took her out of the room. I don't think any of us could take much more of her sobbing all the time.It was hard enough keeping everyone's spirits up without her moaning every five minutes.

Megan pulled me aside excited she said very quitely, "We forgot about Jay." Jay lived on the island. He was the one who stocked the kitchen and saw to Mr.Hogans' every need.But I was sure that Todd had said that Jay had left the island. Anyway I didn't want anyone going out of the house. If Jay came back to the island he was in better shape than we were.Jay was an Ex Marine and had fought in 2 wars. If anyone had a chance it was Jay.

Suddenly a scream pierced the night. It sounded like Betty yelling that Amanda was gone.Megan and I rushed up the stairs to see what was going on.We got there in time to see Kevin pushing Betty out of the room.He yelled at us to get downstairs and get our guns. Confused we did as he said. I raced back upstairs with my gun to help Kevin.I arrived just in time to see him holding Amanda back and yelling at me to shoot her. I froze, I just could not shot a sick woman. Kevin finally kicked her back and snatched my gun from me and shot her in the head. "What the hell is wrong with you," I yelled. I kept yelling at him,at least until he punched me. Then I jumped at him. I wanted to kill him. Kevin raised the gun before I could reach him and stopped me dead in my tracks.

By then everyone was upstairs. Kevin told us all to calm down and go back down stairs. he promised to explain everything as soon as he took care of Amanda.

The first thing he asked when he came back was if anyone had gotten any of Amanda's blood on them? We all looked at Megan, but he said he thought that Megan was safe. Then he wxplained why he shot Amanda.

"What you saw Mark was a Dead Woman!" She was a Zombie." I am sure of this because I saw Jeff pull Todd out the door, he was really messed up man worse than your friend Jorge. I had hoped that Amanda would be okay but I looked in those dead eyes and knew she had turned into one of them.From now on nobody goes anywhere alone. Everybody stay armed. I know there are not enough guns but we can fashion some weapons.You have to kill the brain, shoot them in the head or hit them or stab them in the head.We should be okay but why take chances.

  Hank screamed ,"NO!", as Todd opened the door.Todd had turned to look at him and arms suddenely grabbed Todd and were pulling him out the door. I grabbed a poker from the fireplace and rushed toward Todd, Hank was right behind me.There were only two of them but they still were able to pull Todd out and down the porch.We tried we really did but we couldn't get Todd away from them.Hank yanked me back and shut the door.

He was sweating and cursing that they weren't human. I was tryink to open the door again but Kevin rushed me and knocked me down.I wanted to kill him, that was my best friend since grade school out there, maybe dying.Hank kept yelling that Todd was dead.

When they calmed me down Hank told me what he saw. He said that those men were eating Todd. I couldn't wrap my head around that. Hank called them Zombies.I knew then that he had to be losing it.Zombies Please!The men I saw looked bad sure, all grey and dirty looking, but Zombies Please. Who believed that could be true.

All the uproar had brought the girls into the room.Megan said Amanda was resting but was getting worse.I wasm't ready to believe the Zombie part but I figured whatever was going on we had to protect ourself.Downstaires were guns. Thank God that the house was built so that all the windows were mostly on the second floor.We boarded up the few we had downstairs and got the guns.

Megan gently pulled the blanket off Amanda.She talked to her in a soothing voice. I was proud of my twin, especially when the wound was exposed.Shit I yelled as I jumped back. I never even saw a dog bite much less what was exposed.Megan was still being very gentle with Amanda.The thing looked like a horse took a bite out of her arm. There was this huge hole and this green slimey puss and blood was out pouring from it.Amanda needed a Doctor but we ,well Megan , was all she had right then.Megan cleaned packed and wrapped it the best she could. Kevin had to hold her down alone I was gonna hurl if I had to get near that again.Nobody else even tried to help. I guess they felt like I did.

It started to rain hard as Megan and Kevin got Amanda to bed.Betty went with them.I asked the girls Sue and Terri to see if they could get us some food and drinks. I wanted to talk to Tood and Hank alone.With the boat gone so was our radio.Hank asked Todd about the shortwave in the basement.Todd hung his head and softy told us he had broken it last trip over by accident when he got drunk.

So we were stranded!! Our only hope was  that Todd's Dad  came looking for us. That's if he wasn't too busy.We were okay but Amanda really needed help.We had food and freah water to last us for months.All we could do was Pray Mr Oil King missed his own son soon.

Thud,thud,thud!! we all jumped.Sounded like someone was at the door again.Todd laughed and said ,"maybe that guy Jeff made it", he figured that maybe that Kevin guy and those women were mistaken.This time I didn't want to open the door but it was too late.Todd had unlocked it and was swinging it open.

The girls started screaming, and I could tell the guys wanted to too.By the third thump I realized that I could hear people yelling for help.Todd started yelling,"Don't open the door", but I could hear a woman's voice crying to be let in.

So I opened the door a crack to see who it was.There stood 2 women and one man. They were all wet and dirty but looked unharmed.So I let them in. No way was I having their death on my soul.

They stumbled in and fell exausted in the front room.My friends were crowded in the other side of the room very afraid of the new people. But they were too tired to notice or care. I covered the women with blankets and introduced myself."I am Mark what happened to you people!" "Do you have a boat?" The man introduced them all. I'm Kevin that blond is my wife Betty and the other woman is her friend Amanda.we had a boat. Then Kevin said,"Man let me start from the beginning okay?".

We were on a short cruise in our sailboat and we were attacked. Out of nowhere these things started rocking our boat.I asked him what things and Betty answered Dead things. Kevin gave her a look and said she was in shock and he wasn't sure what she saw.All he knew was that something was trying to turn over his boat. He and Jeff, Amanda's boyfriend were trying to keep the boat afloat.Betty yelled at Kevin that she saw them pull Jeff off the boat and under the water.Kevin replied that neither he nor Amanda saw that, all he saw was the blood and that he thought sharks had gotten to Jeff after he fell overboard. After all the boat was being rocked and it just had to be big fish.

While telling his story my friends got closer and asked questions of their own.How did they get to the island? Did they radio for help? Did they see anything on the island that scared them?

That last question got a response from Amamda. She started yelling like a banshee. It took me and Kevin to hold her down and get her calm again.That's when Kevin told us what he thought he saw.When the reached the shore the saw what looked to be a young man comming toward them.The kid looked all messed up and he ran to help him.We all yelled out Jorge"s name, thinking that he might still be alive. But Kevin asked us to let him finish telling what he saw.As he got closer to the young man he noticed that he was walking strange and that he was all bloodied. But what scared him the most was his eyes.They were gone and yet he kept comming towards him like he saw him.As Kevin got closer the young man grabbed him and tried to bite him. He fought him off and had to call for help because he still believed the kid needed help. Amanda ran to help and as she laid her hands on him he took a big chunk out of her arm.I had to hit him with a rock to get him to let go, Kevin said, I'm afraid I killed him.Then Megan noticed that Amada was bleeding thru the blanket and she ran to get the first aide kit.Megan is like that she always checks for the bathrooms and exits and the first aide station or kits when she first comes to a new place.I use to make a joke out of her doing that but now I was glad she was prepared.
