Talking Skeleton Coffin Breakers Part 1
Posted On 08/21/2007 06:36:16

These are going to be the center piece for my graveyard.

I built these from store bought props and they cost me about $40 a piece. I started with buying the main pieces, I got the ground breakers from Walgreens for $10 each and the Boris skulls for $20 each from Big Lots.

First  I took the ground breakers and twisted off the foam heads, then pulled out the metal rod that was sticking thru the neck and head.

The  next step I took the stand shaft that the Boris skull was attached to and centered it over the neck and pressed down to make an indention so I could crave out the foam from the neck for the shaft to go.

Here are some pics of how it looks with the hole and the Shaft inserted.

I  then took the Boris Skull and placed it on the shaft and put back on the headband and hair to cover up the switches on the side of it. I took the wires from the micorbone and ran it down the back of the neck so they would be out of site.

This  is how they look after I got thru hacking them.

I  will be building 2 half coffins to put them in and will post details on that in a few days.

They will be put in the front of my graveyard centered so that everyone that comes will be able to see and here them. They will be side by side breaking out of the ground in thier coffins telling jokes to each other.

New props in the making
Posted On 07/07/2007 13:03:16

I finally decided on what props to build for this halloweens haunt. I got started on them today and hopefully will be able to finish them all by the middle of september if work allows me.

I have decided to take the haunt from the garage to the driveway this year to give me more room to work with and have bigger props. It will be 24' deep and 16' wide divided into 4 equal size rooms.

The first room will be a dining room scene with a table and chairs, two ghouls sitting at the table with a severed head on a platter in the middle. Then on the wall beside the table I will have two haunted mirrors hanging with pics. of ghostly people fading in and out.

The second room will be an old warehouse with boxes piled up in one corner/ one of the boxes will be the monster in the crate prop and the other corner I will have a projection of a ghost flying toward the group.

The third room will be totally coverd in foil with strobe lights and blacklights. I will also have a FCG in there and maybe a gaint spider hanging from the wall.

The fourth and final room will be the torture room where I will have an electric chair, wall of pain, and rack.

I also would like to make a crate pop-up/ankle blaster because I got an air compressor for fathers day.

I've never worked with air operated props before so if some one could point me in the right direction I would be very happy. The main thing I probly need help on is figuring out how to hook up a triggering device to it to make it work.

I will be posting pics. of each project as I go along.

Planning for this halloween
Posted On 01/24/2007 22:05:41
I finally picked me up some stuff to try and make a few talking and moving props for this year. I just need to figure out how to go about doing it.
I need to do some research and give it a try.
Last year I tried to do a monster in a box, it worked pretty good but I used to thin of wood for the lift mechanism and it broke after being set off a few times. That was suposed to be my best scare and I got real dissapointed when it broke at the begining of the night. I learned from my mistake and this year will be better prepared than I was last year.
I'm going to be working on my main props all year till I get them right, instead of at the last minute. I also have a plan to go by and not just tring to throw something together like I did in the past.
When I get the props made I will post a video of them up for everyone to see how they came out.

next year

I have gotten alot of wonderful ideas from all the people on here. I am surely hooked now. I'm planning for next year already. This was my first attempt at making a garage haunt, and I started way to late to be able to make any decent props are to have the money to buy any of the supplies I would needed.
I will be starting on my yard and garage haunt for next year come Jan. that should giuve me plenty of time to make props and buy the materials needed.
Last year I did my whole garage up like a graveyard and it was fun all the trick or treaters had a real good time. I said I was going to start then planning for this year but others things got in the way.

First year haunt

I'm just about done with my garage haunt. I got a late start so I did away with one room. I was planning on making four different rooms all 6'x10' but time was running out, so I only got 2 rooms done like I wanted and than I made another room with only 3 sides which will be the exit room were the TOT's will recieve thier goodies.
The first room is covered with foil from the ceiling to about have way down to the floor, then the rest of the way down with 4 mil black plastic. I have a strobe light in the upper corner with a blue filter on it. The right hand corner when you walk in has one of the store bought ghouls that is motion activated and goes up and down. the far left hand corner has a static vampire ghoul hanging from the ceiling with a small fan behind it to give it movement and in the middle of the room I have two rows of
fishing string coming down from the ceiling so it will brush against the face and hair of the TOT's.
The second room right when you walk in to the right I have a zombie latern that is motion activated. The right hand corner on the far side has my wall of pain with moving les and arms. At the door I have my skull candle I made and up above them I got a red light hanging to illuminate the room with and to provide the shadow to activate the zombie lantern.
Once you leave this room you come to the grave yard where you recieve your treats it's done with scene setters, strobe light, black light, some grave stones I made from styrofoam, and me of course dress up like a skeleton.
as you exit the grave yard with your treats I have made a simple monster in the box to try and get one last scare from you.
I will try and get some pics but I'm not very good at taking night photos. I will take some with the lights on it looks so much better and spooky with the effect light but I will have to practice my photography for next year.
