Hillbilly area authenticity
Posted On 03/11/2010 07:58:32

i was scoping out our new, local version of Craigslist and i came across a banjo.

when i was very, very young, i remember my Dad playing the banjo... i love Bluegrass music... Danny has always said he'd like to have a banjo... it all added up, plus the price was SO right!

it's a 5 string, Aria brand, sounds great! it is used of course, but not used up. it came with a hard case for safe storage, too.

best of all? our long-time friend, Ted plays and plays well. he won't bring his out into possibly iffy weather (it was his Grandfathers who passed away recently) but he will play ours in the Hillbilly area of the trail! *stoked*

how's that for authenticity?

home from ConNooga!

Danny and i are back home, and we're EXHAUSTED!

we had a bad day on Friday... on the way up to the our Ranger lost it's throw out bearing!we were stranded on the side of I-75. luckily Big Danny (my Danny's Dad) has a rollback and was able to get the truck home for us (he also piggy backed us another vehicle up there, saving us a rental car fee)

once we got there, things were great. we are so tired, we'll probably sleep for a week! i do have some pic, not too many... Danny wants to post the Big Wheel pics, so it'll be up in a minute.

lol, this was hilarious.... it's from the Lloyd Kaufman movie, "TERROR FIRMER" we watched it and almost DIED laughing! Mr. Kaufman was there, btw

last minute Mad Lab entry

too little, too late... but i wanted to get something accomplished, haven't worked on much lately. lots of stuff going on.

i threw this together a minute ago... some pics had to be cludged, but here it is:

GLOWING BOTTLES

1st empty your bottle *hic*

rinse it well

cut open a highlighter pen, they come in various colors, we like the yellows and greens personally.

put ink insert from pen inside the bottle, add water and allow to set for a few hours, or until the desired color has been obtained. remove cartridge (you may need to use tweezers to do this)

put a bead of hot glue around the base of the cork, and insert firmly into the neck of the bottle. you can also use regular glue, but give it plenty of dry time!

fire up your blacklight, and enjoy!

December 2, 2009. the worst day ever.UPDATED!
Posted On 12/03/2009 07:04:02

yesterday was a terrible day. just terrible, no other word can describe it.

it began with a phone call  from our good friend and trail partner, Russell, that he'd been badly burned in an accident. he called from the ambulance taking him to the burn center in Augusta in fact. he will be undergoing surgery today. he will have skin grafts to try to fix his feet and shins.the skin he will recieve is from a cadaver... it makes you think twice about being a organ and tissue donor when a close friend is in need. i will certainly be signing up as a donor, and i encourage you all to, as well.

then we had to go to court for Josh's speeding ticket. in Georgia 16 year olds can only have 4 points on their licenses. Josh had a ticket in the summer, and he got one on October 13th, three days shy of his 17th birthday. 3 days later, and he wouldn't have lost his license... oh well, it's his own fault. i tell him everyday to be careful and drive slow... now he won't be driving anywhere until June.

the third thing that happened yesterday came to us via phone call, too. Russells wife and youngest son were in a car accident while driving to Augusta to be with Russell. they were rear-ended on I-75. they were pretty battered and sore when we spoke to them.

bad things come in 3's right?

not in this case. i logged into Hauntspace and saw that Haunty had been laid off from his job. why do bad things always happen to good people? we did speak on the phone briefly, he seemed upbeat, i'm hopeful things will work out. call me today, Haunty.

word of the last thing came also by phone. a boy Josh has gone to school with since Pre-K committed suicide last night.

i don't know what to say or how to say it. stunned is not the word. the community is reeling.

*********************************************

update. the community is still reeling, of course. when something this bad happens it affects everyone profoundly.

i was told that a boy had made a disparaging remark at school the day after and a brawl ensued. the situation is very touchy right now.

Russell had his surgery and is doing good. in fact he's coming home today. they used pig skin instead of cadaver skin he said. i don't have all the details yet, but i'm still going to donate organs/tissue. it's a good cause.

i may not be on a lot in the next little bit. but i will be back.

*hugs* to all my friends, and especially Haunty. hang in there.

*other holiday* parade pics
Posted On 12/01/2009 19:40:32

i will delete this after the 25th of this month... but wanted to share the pics of my float at and in the parade. also a pic of some horses.... couldn't help myself!

the Wells Fargo Stagecoach

Myrtle Hill Cemetery at dusk-so lovely!

still getting ready...

note the black roses... a touch of Halloween!

Dillon in the gorilla suit... another touch of Halloween, lol

THE MAN himself-BOB! Grand Marshal of the parade!

we probably had 35-40 bikers riding along behind the float!

Kenny, an awesome guy and a top hand cyclist! he has ridden across the U.S.!

the chimney actually worked!

Josh

i had the bubble machine going too...

the float made it across town with only 1 minor accident-the light box came loose and we had to repair it. no biggie, though. i wound up riding in the cab of the truck pulling the float with the shop owner, Mike. i waved until my hand and arm were exhausted!

Float pics, if you will...
Posted On 11/30/2009 18:19:35

so it's not Halloween, but the fireplace could be used in a haunt scene.

anyway, since this has to do with the 'other' holiday, i will delete this after the 25th of December.

still somewhat in progress pics:

the parade is tomorrow night, hopefully i will get some pics of it going down Broad Street here in town.

*edited to add, i forgot one!*

not Halloween...
Posted On 11/24/2009 17:46:15

but it could be used in a Haunt scene!

i have once again, been tapped to create the shop float for the town's Christmas Parade. so against my will, i have begun. (had the 70+ year old ex-owner of the shop not been named Grand Marshall and asked me personally to do this, i would not have)

simple is best since i have so little time, so simple it will be. a fireplace, decorated tree and gifts (bikes, of course!). here is what i have so far, the fireplace and chimney.

(the chimney will spout smoke-from one of my foggers)

keep in mind i have basically a $0 budget for this, so it is all made of basically trash. seriously, it is recycled packing materials. the only thing i have paid for was the glue sticks.

the electric heater i have had at the house, unused for years. i am not happy with the hearth, but oh well...

anyway, i wanted to share this with yall.
